You guys are forgetting Indonesia made an insane run through the Asian Cup, a run through World Cup qualifying, and gave the region’s powers a run for the money these past couple years. They’re entire team is made up of Dutch-based players with Indonesian grandparents. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made the next world cup.
I wish John Herdman the best… He will always be my all-time Canadian soccer hero for resuscitating our men and women's national team programs and mentoring Christine Sinclair to becoming a global soccer icon… And that World Cup qualifying campaign was a pleasure to follow Herdman leading Canada towards earning a spot at the 2022 Qatar WC… And at the end of the day, it was Canadian sports journalists who did him dirty (while he was trying to watch his son play at the Olympics) and I will always feel resentment towards that one particular sports write who was quick to implicate John Herdman in all that drama… I don't care what anybody says, John Herdman needs to be honoured by Canada Soccer in some kind of way… We wouldn't be a top 30 ranked team without the foundation he laid…
It will not be an easy start for Herdman. The fact that the Indonesia Fans are in state of disbelieve with federation's choice after the failure of Kluivert, and also fact that some still want Shin to come back to the team. I'm still believe that Herdman, with his experience in Canada team, can handle our national team back to their good performance, and later got that trust he need from the fans.
When Another Coach in the other Country get this Job it seems like Herdman will Coaching Manchester United Omg, its very Dangerous job so he Have to Be carefull with this Job I have to say Good luck to Coach Herdman See you in Jakarta Indonesia on January 2026 Thank you
I would say John Herdman for Canada is equivalent to Shin Tae-yong for Indonesia. I hope the federation doesn't do him dirty like they did with the previous coach
John Herdman reminds me of Shin Tae-yong. Indonesia used to be ranked 175, then climbed to 122. Shin Tae-yong took over when the team was truly starting from zero — the players still had to improve their passing and other fundamentals. He is widely regarded as a history maker for the Indonesian national team from 2022 to 2024.

I just hope he doesn’t get fired by the federation. Everyone knows the football federation in Indonesia is way too “sexy” in the public eye — that’s why it’s often exploited by people who either don’t understand football at all, or do understand it but chase political ambition instead. Hopefully, he stays safe and secure until 2030.
