  1. Wilt played in an Era where there was far few players who could match up with his physical stature, Shaq played in arguably the golden Era of bigs and dominated them all bar none…they had to restructure how they made the hoop because Shaq was such a physical force…there's not a player in nba history who could stop Shaq…idk if we could say that abt Wilt…I'm not sure if Wilt would have been as dominant playing in the Era Shaq came up in…IMO

  2. For all of Wilts dominance, he should have more ships than 2…Wilt was dominant however I don't think he would be as dominant had his competition been better…Shaq wasn't by far more physically imposing than the ppl he played against stature wise, he was just stronger…Wilt was bigger than everyone he played against and stronger than most so it was natural for him to dominate the competition…the gap between size and strength was much smaller with Shaqs competition than Wilts.

  3. Wilt Chamberlain was a world track start before the NBA. He could run a 4.4 had a 45 inch vertical at 7 feet tall. He was also recorded to bench 400lbs. He was also a pole jumper. Wilt was the greatest athlete ever. Just a freak of nature. At. 50 he won the world volleyball championship and was also a race car driver. Shaq is not close to Wilt. Shaq has been swept I believe 4 times in the playoffs. I remember how Hakeem embarrassed Shaq.

  4. The question of who's the most dominant is really no question at all. Wilt Chamberlain was by far more dominant than Shaq in every category & every level. It can be argued that Wilt was the most dominant athlete in the history of sports. He was a world class Olympic athlete while playing in the NBA.

  5. Shaq should be the greatest player of all time. He ended up with 4 rings when he should have had 7-8 rings with the Lakers. Can you imagine if he consistently trained year after year like Kobe or Giannis? Shaq only had a 2 year prime because he always had to make up for not training in the Summer. If you look at it that way, Shaq is one of the biggest UNDERachievers in league history.

  6. I agree. Kobe was right. If Shaq had different work ethic off the court it would’ve been more of joke than it always was

  7. I lost interest in this discussion when Mikan entered the conversation. He was bigger than anyone in the league and shot 41% from the field shooting 2-5 feet away from the basket. Wilt is not only the most dominant in the NBA but in team sports. Shaq, I agree was 2nd and a monster to defend. Dude take your ringer off, no excuses be professional.

  8. Wilt yes, Shaq physically dominant yes but he don't have the accolades to prove his statement. Shaq had a strong run for about 5-7 yrs. Wilt had a strong 7-8 yr run.
MJ had a 10 yr run that eclipses both.

  9. Wilt played during the Era of centers. People mistakenly say the Era with Ewing, Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, etc… was the age of big men. That was the 2nd age of big men. During Wilts Era their were even more hall of fame centers. That never gets mentioned in his legacy. Also they give consideration to him playing a Celtics Superteam all the time. That team had 7 hall of gamers on it at one time. FORGET a big 3 that was a big 7. 2 big 3s on ONE TEAM!!!

And for the majority of Wilts career they didn't count Blocks and their was no 3 pointer his entire career. Also in his Era 4 men could stand in the paint to defend him if they wanted to and fouls were not called as often. Because all of Wilt's games not being on camera he has often been forgotten. Not to mention its been OVER 50 YEARS since he played. People of recency bias. That is why some believe LeBron is the Greatest but 20 years from now that era's superstars will be called the greatest. We have never had a true ranking of stars that combines and or considers all eras.

Jordan benefits from 3 pointers, TV, and some rules that favored offense that was not around in Wilt's Era. Because of these things, non basketball historians do not count him in the greatest conversation. He is not just the most dominate player, he should also be discussed in the goat conversation.

When the NBA top 50 was first created, Wilt was placed 2nd behind Jordan. TODAY his dominance has been forgotten.

If we really examined his stats there is no way he isn't the greatest big man ever if not the best player ever.

Too many people have their heads up MJ's ass to thoroughly examine different eras without bias. Kudos to the Big Dipper the original non human who played basketball.

And Kudos to George Mikan as well. No one mentions him except for when they say he won 5 and they stop at that. But they never deep dive his career. He was the original superstar and the original Bigman. He put the Lakers on the map.

  10. For the most part wilt was playing against guys the size of Dennis Rodman with the exception of a few other centers

Shaq played in the most dominant era of Bigs ( and was the most dominant force IN THAT ERA )

    It’s close ( but it’s still a no brainer )

  11. Didn't Shaq handle both David Robinson and Tim Duncan at one point? Two elite defenders. That was crazy. But good that you threw the stats in there because it can't just be about being physically dominant. What's important is how the players were able to capitalize on their physique, so I agree, Wilt has the edge.

  12. I agree. Shaq was a beast and was unreffereable!!! He could put the ball on the floor and was suprisingly nimble for someone over 300lbs. If he played today, were centers aren't clung to the paint as much and they showcase more skill, I think he would be the big black monstrr version of Giannis. We forget that it was because of the physicallity of the game back then, that Shaq got as big as he did. It was a consious choice. But Wilt was the ultimate athlete man. There's a good reason why no one compares Lebron to Wilt. Not on the court, not in the Gym, not on the track, nowere. That's one of the key differences between The big dipper and the diesel. Diesel was lounging in the offseason eating Big Macks and whoppers while Dipper was eating corned beef sandwiches, running track and lifting weights no nba player has lifted since.

  13. Bill Russell's 11 rings (plus 2 in college and 1 Olympic Gold Medal) are 5 more than Wilt and Shaq both won combined so "dominant" must not include actual winning. Boston 17 > L.A. 12…..Minnesota ain't LA

  14. I think those two are the most dominant basketball players of all time wilt probably was better and he went up against greater competition but don't get it twisted Shaq went up against Ben Wallace in the finals
