Sadly, Gareth, England are no where near capable of getting to a final…….just yet but are now capable of getting to semis instead, which is a good step in the right direction. The problem is we dont hve world class CBs. Just look at the Premier League n who has the best defences…Liverpool and ManCity and the CBs r all foreign players!!
Southgate is a good manager but he has 1 weakness, he plays players based on reputation and respect than based on the situation and what's best. Delph is at the end of his career and a reserve option but gets picked over Maddison out of respect. Walker cos he won the EPL and plays for the best English team domestically gets picked over Wan Bissaka despite Wan Bissaka being better recently. Kane is used as a sub even though he was injured and been awful since he come back just cos hes captain and has a reputation. Dele Alli and Lingard played just cos they have a bit more experience than other available options even though they're bang average. Southgate picks based on sentiment over merit and its cost him 2 semis that he could have possibly won if he trusted the right personel. England got better options in the younger generation than in the current team, trust them like Holland do De Ligt, De Jong and others…..
Southgate must know that after the semis on the WorldCup the aim of English supporters and media will be higher, anything less than that will be scrutinised, we already saw some glimpses of disappointment and criticism after the loss vs Holland, as a neutral they are a long way of winning a tournament, middle of the park they got none who can dictate or create chances, they got physicality and pace as always but lack the cutting edge and the technical ability to control on the big games

Why doesn't Southgate actually play Gomez. He's only the best center half in the country. We have so many talented players coming through but Southgate seemingly wants to stick to the likes of Barkley and Rice, both terrible in the game against the dutch. Bring in Foden, Gomez, Maddison, PLAY WINKS for God's sake. And for the love of God can Michael Keane please never get close to an England shirt again
