A half-miler WON the 5K! He has been finishing only 5 seconds or so behind the Youngs, every single race for the last 2 years, so there was no reason he couldn't kick out like this. I think he was either psyched out by the Youngs, or figured his job was just to come in right behind his brother and the Youngs, and so he did. But he knew the Youngs weren't feeling good, so he took the bull by the horns and kicked butt. Well done.

After watching the Prediction video by Total Running Productions and not hearing Aaron's name as a potential winner, I said to myself that Aaron could be a sleeper pick for the W. Congrats to him. Too bad for the Young's, but my question is: if you're sick, why not go out a bit more conservative so you don't burn all your energy?
I think even though they were going at a good pace they weren’t going fast enough and a guy with fast Sprinter legs gave him an edge.
I always thought that 'shocking = offensive' but here it seems that 'shocking = unexpected'
everyone stop with the excuses. sahlman ran faster than any of you will or have ever run in your lives. he deserves praise.
I think ordering the most recent races on top and descend to the previous races makes more sense. Flows much better and is how you typically see it presented on other channels!

A runner overlooked on this race is Marcelo Mantecon running for Miami Havana. He placed 68th and was the only 8th grade runner in the meet. He runs for Belen High school in Miami. Keep an eye out for him this track season and next cross season.

I think that Aaron could qualify or come very close for the Olympic trials as a high school athlete in 2023, most likely in the 800 meters since this is an Olympic distance high school teens run.
Stop with the excuses they were sick. Leo was in 1st with 400 so the sickness excuse is weak af. Give Sahlman his damn credit. He dropped the hammer on Leo on that last hill. Or as the announcer said “Leo has been broken.” Props to Sahlman. National Champion!
I'm REALLY disappointed in this video. Not only did you not show any of the race itself (mere fragments that gave no sense of anything!) but you gave away the result at the very beginning and then filled up the rest of the tape with dumb B roll that you seemed to put on a loop, repeating and repeating and repeating. If you couldn't get hold of the actual footage for any reason, fine. But why would you blow it for all of us by just revealing the result before we even get into it. Super annoying.

I think it’s crazy that hunter, lex, and Leo were all outside of top 9, but Tyrone Gorze still only got 3rd.
I’m not sure what happened to hunter. Gorze ran well, lex was sick, and Leo died with 800 to go, but hunter just steadily dropped back the whole race
Impressive race by Aaron. They way he ran up the hills it almost looked like he had a lot left even after the race. I see him possibly breaking the high school 800m national record and breaking the 4 min barrier in the mile. This day definitely favored him due to the high winds.
What place did Kipyego get?
Before I say this, I absolutely respect the talent of all the boys in that field. With that said, if Lex and Leo were bedridden until the day before the race, why would they take the lead and try to gap the field halfway in.
Imagine the score if the Young brothers had been feeling well.
I was watching this live and my whole body was shaking in the last k of the race. It was insane
Aaron Sahlman was ranked 49th in the country coming into this race. 40 of the 48 runners ranked ahead of him took part in this race. Wow.
I ran with a mild cold before feeling alright and I ran 45 seconds slower so I can relate

2022 was a spectacular follow-up year to the G.O.A.T. 2021 Newbury Park team. Leo Young wins ASICS Clovis XC Invitational one second off the course record. Lex Young’s first, life-time, cross-country win is the California State title. Aaron Sahlman’s first, life-time, cross-country win is NXN breaking Nico Young’s course record. After the CIF-State meet Leo Young said about NXN, “Things are going to go wrong, and you have to be ready for that.” For the team to win NXN, with a record low score, responding to off-days for Lex, Leo and Dev Doshi is amazing. Congratulations to the team.
Although it was certainly a great run and upset by Aaron Salman he has been a proven elite high school runner for a while so I don't think it was an "insane" upset.
I was at the race. My brother runs for herriman high school. I applaud Aaron with his big win, but I am more surprised by my teams performance. Many people placed our team anywhere between 13th or 18th before the race. Although our amazing spirit and incredible coach helped herriman secure 3rd. To me, herriman were the true underdogs 😉

Dude runs an 8:48 3200m. Ain’t no way you’re going to take him out fast and wear him down. He’s got speed and endurance. He proved he can hang and win.
Leo would’ve crushed Aaron but he passed out, this man is leaving out a lot of the story. And both Young brothers were sick
I watched on discord with my friends and I jokingly said before the race “Aaron sahlman 14:45 course record” and I freaked out when it happened
