I never liked Holmes for the same reasons as everybody else, each time he was facing an opponent i wished he'd lose until Spinks, wich wasn't convincing.
Great video about a great fight ! Larry Holmes is one of the top 5 heavyweight-champions in history. Tim Witherspoon had the talent and punching power to become an all-time top 10 heavyweight ATG,but unfortunately he wasted his potential.
when you explain it and show it…..round 10 Tim wanted to be like Ali outbox Holmes win the title you should never try and be something you're not if he'd gone forward he'd win…I think Holmes ranks behind Ali Frazier Foreman Tyson Holyfield Bowe and Lewis but capable of beating anyone on a good day bad day situation
Holmes was my favourite all time Heavyweight but I loved myself some Spoon also 💪🏼🥊. Tough tough fight for Larry was this one. Was lucky to get the win as he was in some serious trouble.
A brilliant fight analysis Rich on both fighters. I have always felt that Holmes never go the public's credit for the champion that he was. However having said that I think Homes was smart in terms of money and when it was time to go. Many thanks for sharing!
Great Fight I remember it well. This was the fight that Larry Holmes appeared to get old in. I thought Larry Won mainly because he outhustled Tim in some of those close rounds. Tim should have taken it to Larry in those late rounds but was trying to Box in those last 3.
Holme's Won the 9th Round … He was In his element ; (ken- Norton).. Holme's was More accurate as the Assassin"… Tim Witherspoon Came out dancing In the 10 Round Because he was Weakening by that point of the fight…. Just My Opinion……..
Witherspoon almost achieved victory in this fight and that 9th round is one of the greatest rounds in heavyweight history. Hard to believe he pulled out a performance like this against an ATG like Holmes with only 15 pro fights behind him.
Excellent analysis. Not swayed by the utter disdain and bias shown by commentator Angelo Dundee and his shill Chris Schenkel. It's obvious that Dundee was still seething from seeing his fighter, Ali, thoroughly annihilated by Holmes. The only clear-cut round that Witherspoon won was Round 9. And even then, Holmes dominated the last portion of it. I scored it 9-3 in favor of Holmes. If I was generous, 8-4.
Larry Holmes was an awesome fighter with the heart of lion. He showed what he was made of in that incredible 9th round. As Angelo Dundee said, he was out on his feet and yet, somehow, he was able to weather the storm thanks to his heart, skills and physical attributes. Larry has to be considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

What a ninth round! Incredible that Holmes took all those clean punches and still managed to remain on his feet, let alone fight back.

When you take the title off a champion you need to knock the champion out. You cannot rely on the point decision
Larry was a great fighter..as courageous as any of the legendary heavyweight champions. He certainly is in the top five in my opinion.
