Thanks for the rundown. I’m always hearing about JoGo, Paredes, Mendes..but now I’m more educated. Who’s better between CCV and EPB?
Also Justin.. congrats. And hope you can have a sleeping baby in your arms as you watch the games. It’s the best.
Congratulations Justin! Babies are precioussssss! 🙂
I'm really excited to see how Jonathan Gomez and Kevin Paredes develop. I think they're too young and inexperienced to fit into this cycle, but certainly in the next cycle they should be coming into their prime. Hopefully Gomez will choose US. Apparently they're very good friends too, so I hope the competition will be fierce and they push each other to get better.
Awesome guest. Enjoyed very much. Congrats to Justin and both of you, keep up the quality work
Loved this video, thank you.
GGG needs to go take a psychology class and study biases.
ESPN FC interviewed Joe Scally and it looks like Gregg isn’t interested in him. This matches to what you guys were saying.
As far as Gomez and Sociedad go, Both the first team LB’s are injured I thought….???
I'm going to post this several places but I would love to hear some conversation about it at some point. So we have to get through this world cup. But what type of effect do you think the changes to 2026 will have. Especially no draws in the pool matches. Reading through the World Cup 26 info, it appears that they going to go directly to penalty kicks after full time. Is this going to lead to more upsets, fewer upsets, etc. Is it better for the game?
Hey brother I’ve been following you for about 6 months now and it’s amazing how far you’ve come. Keep up the great work with the quality of these interviews and analysis you give us of the USMNT. Love that there are finally you tubers that give us in depth analysis of Americans in the soccer world. Can’t wait till we start making some noise in this World Cup and the next.
I know its a stupid observation to make but the idea that so many of our higher tier players have to prove themselves to Greg is stomach turning. Greg offers literally nothing of value, what a bum.
I’ve also said this, u need to be a glaring talent in a top 5 league to be included in the roster if you play in europe, if you play in mls you get the most chances and the chance of you getting picked is a lot higher
man, watching those clips of john brooks just ping balls all over the field… how do you leave this guy out of the team?
There's a massive difference between a great practice player and a great game player. Acknowledging that everyone has a bad game, coaches have to have a tournament view in soccer…not a game view. We've seen the coach in tournaments and he wins. But right now, we're focused on sets of games. It sounds like there's not a difference, but there definitely is when you think about the road to Qatar versus Nations Cup or World Cup. Let's get into Qatar and the decide. That's really all that matters
I was hoping to hear more about Hoppe – a grossly under rated player that Gregg stupidly avoids as he previously did with LDLT…
Sam rogers is 22 and made a permanent move to rosenborg. If he starts for them that another player getting Europa league minutes and could be one to watch out for
Best usmnt channel out there
USMNT page but rocking the Nigeria gear? Seems kinda….strange
Out of all the players mentioned I think Gomez has the highest ceiling. He's crazy technical on the ball, ball secure, and works hard defensively. I like Brooks but I wish he wasn't so slow and had his head on a swivel more in the box. He loses guys in the box and it makes for dangerous situations. His passes are amazing though and I think he just needs someone fast, physical, and aggressive next to him and I just don't think Miles Robinson is that guy.
Interesting stuff… thanks!
I don't pretend to know the situation with Brooks. I will however say this as a general standard. Part of being an effective manager is resolving conflict within a team, dealing with difficult personalities- salvaging inevitable challenging situations when they arise- and they will. Simply removing a valuable piece because of difficulty or challenge is shirking a major responsibility of a leader- taking the easy way out rather than putting in the effort to rehabilitate- reintegrate a person. Obviously- if after numerous attempts to get a team member on board the issue hasn't improved- or a team member is such a cancer the situation can't be fixed- comes a time you have to make a cut. Hopefully- if Brooks absence is indeed a personality issues- he is given the opportunity to redeem himself as he brings some tools the team needs.
You and Justin did a fantastic job on this! Look forward to the next one. One side note I think the USMNT finally has enough depth at each position for there to be some good competition to get not only a starting position but a roster spot as well. Not only that but we have players who have been on the roster that haven't been called up or fringe type players staying motivated and working on their development to get that call up. There are so many and there are more coming up through academies and clubs dare I say the future is bright? For the present I'm hopeful our roster selections, tactics, ideas, and in game changes improves.
This may be my opinion but I just think that Americans aren’t talented in football or ever will be.
I always chuckle when someone says that they have been a fan "Since 2014" or "Since 2010"… because I started quite a bit before that and added Argentina as a second "home team" back in 2007. It is amusing to witness the naivete of some under-30 fans.
If people think that Gregg's selections are confusing and/or ridiculous, their minds would have exploded watching Diego Maradona barely lead Argentina, the country with far-and-away the best goal scorers in the world in 2010, through qualifying for South Africa 2010… including a 1-6 loss to Bolivia on the road. Then after qualifying, Diego left off two starters from the 2010 Champions League winning Inter Milan squad, including their captain, and instead brought his girlfriend's best friend's boyfriend, a middling defenseman in the Argentine league… TO A WORLD CUP!
PS- John Brooks will not be called into the team for the last window. There's nothing to see there. Don't know why people can't get over a lead-footed technical guy who doesn't like to hustle. Brooks may be called into a summer camp because he has shown that he's indifferent when playing CONCACAF qualifiers and is not someone you want around young players, but he (Brooks) does value playing in a World Cup, so if Gregg is backed into a corner, he may allow Brooks an opportunity back into the squad, but like Klinsmann with Donovan, Gregg is loathe to include Brooks going forward.
Be thankful that Brooks is a far cry from the level of Javier Zanetti in 2010.
I would add Paxton Pomykal to this. What he can do as an 8 is more than let's say a Mendez.
LB is not the main issue. The 9 is.
Great segment and interview…appreciate it!
No Konrad ? He’s not in the USMNT picture but ought to be. No?
Hey Jake, maybe it's just me but I feel like there IS a divide in the squad between the Euro guys and MLS guys. I usually see pics of MLS guys together and Euro guys together but rarely of them all mixing together. Maybe it's just the pics I've seen, maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part. But what do you think based on what you've seen?
Yes!!!! More of this!!!
Great interview! You are the fairest USMNT YouTuber out there!
Roldán comes to mind when you talk about Greg sticking with someone a little too long for familiarity. I would like to see one of the young guys mentioned being called up for Nations League.
