This was much better than Ali vs Inoki (which was a total farse due to the heavy restrictions/rules put in to benefit Ali)… but that's not saying much. Even here, as another poster said, there was some sort of 3 second rule when you got to the ground (once again, to save Wepner). Ridiculous rules to benefit the boxer…. as anyone knows, if there was any true "MMA" Boxer vs Wrestler match, the wrestler always would win. All boxers have is punching prowess…. All wrestlers have to do is move in quick, dodge the punch, get a hold of you, get you down to the ground, and its OVER.
What’s up with Arnold Skaaland in Wepnder corner with the White shirt outside the ring! If Skaaland was there Vince McMahon sr. Def had his hand in the mix! Plus Wepner was from Jersey and new Vince!
This fight looks more satisfying to watch. Unlike the Muhammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki fight in which Inoki stayed glued to the canvas for the entire match thus giving little chance to Ali to throw jabs at Inoki.
The Ali vs Inoki match, in comparison, was a complete farce.
At least Inoki stood up during this fight. He stayed on the floor with Ali. It was a total sham. Chuck Wepner didn't scare him like Ali did. Ali's hands were way faster than Wepner's even at Ali's advanced age. Inoki made the match with Ali a farce.
Musta been a thing back in those days to mix and match different fighting…obviously it's just a staged exhibition. I know Wepner did one of these with Andre the giant back then and you could tell it was completely staged. Just like this. Probably told him not to knock him out and the other guy not to take him down, just make it look good.
"Okay, guys! Great idea for this mixed rules fight! We'll show boxing for all it is by allowing every and all strikes! And we'll show all the possiblies of wrestling by only allowing grappling for a few seconds and not allowing any submissions!"

この時期？猪木さんは不評に終わったアリ戦再戦へ向け、動き出し、WBC連盟だったかな？｢それならアリと戦った挑戦者たちから元世界ヘビ－級王者のジョ－・フレイザ－かチャツク・ウェップナ－のどちらかを選んで戦え！｣という打診があったと記憶してます。フレイザ－戦は興味があったのですが、危険と踏んだのか？結局、あの大巨人アンドレと戦ったウェップナ－に決まったようです。これももちろん予定調和で猪木さんかも勝ったのですが、実際のウェップナ－のパンチはジムで公開練習の時、サンドバックを持っていた新日本の若手ごとブ－ンと飛ばされる破壊力であの大巨人も試合後に｢俺はリングアウト勝ちしたけど、ウェップナ－のパンチは相当、破壊力があった。一週間ぐらい顎や頬が痛くて辛かった｣と語る程のダメ－ジがあったのだそうです。確か私はその時は中学生でしたけど。

More realistic than anything you would see in the WWF. Too bad Chuck couldn't have stayed sober for this, would have looked even more realistic!

方はボクシング仕立てのお芝居などやったことがないので、動きに精彩を欠くの
はやむを得ない。今のように、総合格闘技や本当の異種格闘技の試合が行われる
ことのない時代だから成立したショー。

このオープンフィンガーグローブを考案したのは確か佐山聡さんだったと思う。元はブルース・リーの考案したものだけど。
（リーのオープンフィンガーグローブは、アメリカの警察において警棒で相手のナイフを手から叩き落す練習で使う「小手」を改造したもの）
アリ戦のような緊迫感が無いのは残念だったね
後半少し雑だったけど、今見ると試作段階という感じで面白い

子供の頃は異種格闘技は面白いと見ていたけど、自分が真剣勝負の世界に足を踏み入れると、？と思うようになった。テレビで試合見たり、ゲームでやるぶんには楽しいよ。
