Ed Woodward panic sacked him because City got Pep. United were well within a shout of winning the league the next season. It was United's first proper trophy since ferguson retired. Van Gaal was one of those rare managers that could run the whole club from top to bottom like fergie did. At the time, a huge mistake to sack him.

If there was one manager that I would like to keep for longer in the post-Fergie era, it would be Luis Van Gaal. Yes, I get that some of the football we were playing was terrible, but looking back, I kind of wonder what would happen if he got another year or two, and what kind of football we could have developed under him.
