As an England fan I was so excited about Joe Cole coming through age 16. So much expectation. He did ok but mostly nice flicks and touches. Never set the word alight imo. There was a spare space left mid but he just did ‘ok’
Until the typical english tell him to play boring because it looks more proffesional and us english are oh so known for our class and professionalism. Jokers.
Same happened to Jay Jay Okocha. Both amazing when allowed to play with freedom and do as they pleased but both were made to play sensible and be more responsible and they both lost their magic.
I saw Joe play for England under 15s at Rushden & Diamonds. No idea who he was then but he was just toying with the opposition like they were under 8s. Wizard.
