  1. Thanks once again for a very useful video. I just bought me a Splitboard with a softboot binding and have a bit of a hard time as a decades long hardboot carver.

  2. Ryan, I've been watching your carving videos for some time. Now I just came back from five days skiing in Riksgränsen, at the peak of northern Sweden. It is an 18 hour train ride from Stockholm. Still 2.5 m snow up there. I practiced your heal side carving tips and they made a ton of difference. The heal side has always been a weak side for me. Wonderful to finally get the technique right. Great fun. I'm so grateful. Thank you!

  3. Hi Ryan,

first of all, congrats for the video!

Could you be please so kind and let me know about the angle of your bindings?

  4. I’ve been practicing but the part where you ‘rock back and forth on the board’ is something I’m still not able to get! I feel like my turns are wide and I can’t go from edge to edge without moving my upper body so much. Any tips would be appreciated!

  5. Dialed-in my carving a few weeks ago (intermediate)… but I'm realizing that my gear is now limited my progession. Gotta upgrade from my yard sale-bought board 😆

  6. Many thanks. You never stop learning… your driver x and stiff bindings are helping also. Equipment is also key in my opinion.

  7. Im learning carving, today was a great day in the slopes. My hillside really needs to improve though. I get a good speed carving toe side, but when I turn to hillside, I spread a lotta snow in high speed and it causes me to fall sometimes, specially if there bumps. Gonna try this tips tomorrow

  8. Excellent video. Best carving video I have seen.

I wish everyone would watch this video as it is hard to watch (I used to teach carving) most snowboarders skid through their turns with their back hand waving around and their weight on their back foot.

  9. Great tips! I’d add that you can adjust the turn radius by tilting your knees lengthwise along the board to flex it. Bring them in for a tighter turn, push them out for a wider turn. 🤓👏

  10. Lol don’t try going as low as him I know from experience your boots will catch, he has a super wide board

  11. Hey, I’ve been trying to get my caves really clean and fluent but I’ve fell quite some times because of my shoes. I’m a size 45 in europe and I feel like it hinders me to just lean in that extra bit. Does anybody have some tips? Maybe get a wider board?

  12. i was thinking, now way i can do that with my board..until i saw he had a carving board…it sure helps… =^)

  13. I guess I’m that one guy. I started taking snowboarding seriously this winter. Regular stance on the board (same as pint, skate & surf) and the heel side carve came easy and naturally. Toe side, on the other hand, sux—seriously sux. Just no flow in the transition and seems robotic instead of smooth and fluid. Just more reason to stay on the snow I guess.

  14. Great tips Ryan. #9 Track analysis is way easier if you ride down under a lift! That's way easier to do at our small eastern resorts.

  15. For ultimate carving, what is the recommended angle for an edge? 90, 1, 2, 3 degrees? What's the edge-angle you prefer?

Are a proper edge & edge-angle super important, or, actually not as important as I'm thinking?

I can now grab my board when heel carving, but the carves are nowhere near yours; leveling up =)

  16. Your riding is SO smooth and graceful! I love how simple you make it and brake it down so well that beginners like myself can pick it up & begin apply it immediately!! So glad I stumbled upon your channel, I’m now a follower (subscribed) and newly addicted snowboarder!

  17. Hi Ryan. I really love carving since day 1 because of your video. However I’ve tried two boards over 3 snow seasons (around 20 days in total) and still have not yet mastered heelside carving. I checked some snowboard websites and realised both my boards were actually park oriented (although I simply thought I could learn snowboarding on anything if I work hard enough so I basically just bought all-mountain boards – turns out both boards were not recommended for carving) do you have any recommendation on board for intermediate carving snowboarders? Thank you so much.

  18. Hi Ryan! Do I need to pull my toes in for a sharp edge angle? No matter how hard I try to put the board sharply, it doesn’t work because the biomechanics are arranged so that the leg must be straightened in order to put pressure on the heel. How to sit down and at the same time press your heel to the edge?

  19. I’m more of a surfer so not well versed on different boarders and styles. I just try to ride the mountain like a wave. I’d never seen you ride before today and it’s incredible. Most videos are tips for beginners but these are definitely going to help improve my riding. It’s art how you use a board, thanks!

  20. So nice to watch your art ! Years of practice . I’m new and love to carve what is the best carving board in your opinion to purchase I am 5 foot 10 and 200 lbs
