Rather than centre backs, it was US midfielders who were the MVP. They would take the ball & they would zoom past Brazilian midfielders while having the ball.
Brazilian midfielders could only pass to full backs, making a predictable attack & no central threat cause of that. As long as you have athletic & a bit of technical midfielders, US can build around that.
