@96horseluvr The code of points is different. They use the score out of 10, then add on the level of difficulty. So in previous years, there were girl doing simple routines and some doing super hard tumbling passes and don't always stick them. So the new code of points helps the girls who do hard tumbling passes
@chinghxd If she quoted herself correctly, Maroney said she's been doing the Amanar for over three years, so I'm sure that's what she competed. But I do agree, there does seem to be a pretty strong discrepancy in the score there. At Worlds McKayla just barely broke 16 and she had the smallest step (in the .1 deduction range) where Shawn was clearly in the .3 range. I believe they both have good form and power, but if this was a 16 McKayla should have scored much higher on hers.
she needs to work on sticking her landings better. i've never been in gymnastics but i'm sure that it would look a LOT better if she worked on sticking the landing instead of always taking huge steps when she lands. i watched a lot of gymnasts who stuck their landings and it looks a lot better and cleaner.
@freeBITCH0 The code has changed a lot, the average score is a lot lower now because there are bigger execution deductions. So Maroney's 16 is really a lot better than Shawn's 16 which wouldn't be a 16 today.
I agree with you, but the thing is that the regulations and the scoring have changed a bit. That's why back in '08 or '07 there were lots of 16.000 and even 17.000. Nowadays you rarely see that, the only 16s you see now are from a couple of gymnasts like Mckayla Maroney. If she does that same vault today, with some luck she can score around a 14.5. Oh and BTW it's Maroney* lol
is this an amanar? did the COP modify difficulty levels or something, because girls like Wieber etc do the vault exactly the same way and get a 15 something…
Do you Maroney? Every years the COP changes so it gets more and more difficult to get those big scores. In my opinion part of the reason why the amanar was downgraded from a 6.5 to a 6.3 in this new quad is because Maroney was almost too good. Shawn was able to also score like this because the rules were different but also because fewer gymnasts were performing this vault. The more the gymnasts performed this vault the better the judges got at finding deductions in my opinion.

i love watching her run! it's pretty cute
im going this year! so exciteddd <3
I wish I can do that
i love shawn, but y does she get a 16 for a big step, and mckayla maroney gets a 15.9 for a tiny itty bitty step?

i love her but Shawn Johnson can NOT stick a landing on beam, vault or bars. its always that little step and its sooooo frustrating to watch.
i lurve her leo and hair i'm not copying the people who've said said this a zillion times i really love them!!

@freeBITCH0 Because this is a US competition in an Olympic year. No need to hype Maroney, everyone already knows she's the best in the world :o)

@freeBITCH0 hmm, really good point. has the COP changed at all for vault? cuz shawn has no where near perfected this vault as well as maloney
@freeBITCH0 its Maroney not Maloney
''BIG TIME!!"
Wow, the height and distance from the horse is great! Do they still call it a horse?
Not a fan of her on vault. She could never get that Amanar all the way around and the judges never downgraded it – which they should have.
@uncchristine99 It's a table now.
@Elle23345 This one was so all the way round.

I love her leo!
is this a 2 1/2 twist?
yeah, some still call it a horse while others call it a table or a tongue.
yup. code of points have changed.. :
yes
I know! Maybe it's because back then she was pretty much the only person in the USA who could do an amanar, and the judges were shocked.
Who said Macaroni?!
maybe its cause of the new code.
the scoring was a bit different in 08
overscored!!!

she means mckayla maroney, kristen maloney was a 90's gymnast and she's talking about a girl vaulting in 2011….
is this an amanar? did the COP modify difficulty levels or something, because girls like Wieber etc do the vault exactly the same way and get a 15 something…
because obviously she was overscored by my opinion like Nastia's bars 🙂
man she barely squeezes in the last half turn!
Big time! 🙂
in 2008 the vault was something special, not many gymnasts did it, now it's standard to do an amanar (just my opinioin)
it is standard in the USA and maybe Russia
U have to remember that the u.s. dominates on vault its only really the u.s. that its a standard in now

I thought it was downgraded to a 6.3?
*bologna
I love her hair!!
so much power!
This is the same score Cheng Fei got at the Team Finals at the olympics. How?
First american woman to do amanar in a competition.
I can't even tell you how good you are
even though shawn could never stick this landing, she’ll always be one of my favorite vaulters just because of her amazing form!!
How did this score so high she is barely twisted around and those knees 😬
