When was the protocol created/enacted for dealing with abuse that the referees don't hear? I know I had to deal with that a couple times back in my referee days; and although me and my crews handled it much as you described it, actually having a protocol would have make it a lot easier to work with the coaches and players – whenever something like that happens emotions go through the roof, but it might have helped, even a small amount. I'll put my old man stick away now.

As a DC United fan, it's obviously frustrating to have two controversial calls go against them, but your rationale in both cases is reasonable. I was sort of surprised that nothing was made of the Columbus keeper going for a punch, completely missing and absolutely clattering into a United player. Is this just a special privilege for keepers? I always thought the standard was the keeper needed to make contact with the ball before they can legally go through a player.
I was at the dc United game in the supporter section we couldn’t believe the first call and I’m shocked to see the replay of the 2nd goal. Really took the wind out of the crowd and now we’re in 13th place …
