  1. There’s something called Var that helps referees to get more rational and intelligent calls, so that they don’t have to rush their decisions using their “instinct”. Not using Var is part of the problem

  2. If there's laws then why do so many teams have players sent-off in the CL when playing Real and Barca? Maybe they're just quicker and so much better at passing, I don't know? But Casemiro was lucky to stay on. That dive was ridiculous, he'd already been booked and ref had to tell him to stop moaning! You can't argue about the goal though. Great strike!

  3. Take a possible second yellow card for Casemiro into consideration when evaluate the referees job!!!! If he sticks to his line then this is a second yellow card, but what he did was warned Casemiro! Why he didn’t warn Freuler? Common

  4. People… It was not an obvious goal scoring opportunity. The secret lies in Mendy's last touch right before he was tackled. This does not go under Law 12(denying a goal or obvious goal opportunity).

  5. I think it’s a red card but Robson is 💯 right about allowing Refs to make their decisions based on their perspective and feel for the game. Laws of the game leave it up to the ref to make a decision. I can see how people can believe it was a goal scoring opportunity and I can see why people say it wasn’t. Ref made the call move on.

Anyone who’s played competitive sports knows different refs may call things differently. Some games you know this ref will allow more physical play then others and players adjust accordingly. Robson’s right about allowing the ref to use their judgment.

  6. Look, I am gonna explain this. According to the rules, there are 4 things the referee must check in this situation to give a red card.
1-Distance between the offence and the goal.
    2-General direction of play.
3-Likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball.
4-Location of the defenders OR the number of defenders.
The distance wasn't much far and it was a clear opportunity to score so we can cross the first two out. Since Mendy was behind the player and no defender was there in front of him the likelihood of him gaining the ball if not fouled is 100%. Thus that checks the third one out. Now the constant arguments the people seem to say is that Freuler wasn't the last man, but again it is stated in the 4th one that the location of the defenders must be taken to account as well and he was distant from Mendy. Hence that crosses the 4th point out as well. Thus we can say that the referee's decision was correct and although it might be harsh, you cannot say it's wrong.

  7. You guys need to take away the fact that Mendy isn't a goal scorer if he had the finishing ability of messi you guys would say a red is fair because he would have gotten a shot off there's no question about that .

  8. It wasn't a red obviously anyone who sees it as a red is clueless…. the rules needs to be changed , guys it was red carded because any 1v1 and if you foul someone like that it's a red regardless.. so but technically speaking.. was it worth the red? no it wasn't it should've been yellow and a foul that's it. the rules are dumb.

  9. Morons in the comments debating about whether he would've scored it or not smh
That doesn't matter, he was 1v1 with the keeper and was denied a clear shot on goal
    Hence, the RED CARD

  10. Yet they're not talking about play before the red card where the Atalanta keeper kicked Vinicius on his upper thigh and got away with it, it was also outside the penalty box and should've been a straight red. Bias and controversy at its finest 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
