  1. I’d just love to hear the reasoning VAR didn’t overturn the pen call? Other than some Shady BS of trying to keep Canada out of the final

  2. OK – it is called "putting yourself in harm's way" – yes, the defender wound up for a huge clearance – and Corny came zooming in and the abortive follow-thru caught our lad in the right foot – so the defender cannot be held responsible?

  3. That would have been a weak penalty call. Hate when a ref decides the outcome of any game. Canada missed the net with open chances. Soccer at this level is hard to watch. Players going down all over the pitch.

  4. This referee put asserting himself ahead of getting the call right. It shouldn't be up to that moron to decide where he should be looking at the replay to see if he was wrong. Coach should be given a coach's challenge to VAR. At that point if you want to be corrupt do it in plain sight.

  5. The var ref in the booth, reviewed the play and did not call the center to review. var would show exactly what the replay showed, Canadian player made contact with the Mexican player from the back throwing off his clearance. Mex player never saw the Can player. Contact with the ball does not mean it's not a foul on canada. How many times I've heard, "but I/he touched the ball"? doesn't always make it a fair paly. A common misconception. Most of the announcers think that, apparently. The VAR ref, Costa Rica, saw no need for Ref to review.

  6. I believe it was not a penalty…Referee call it right, it was an assault on the defender all over him and he caused the contact on purpose to gain a penalty.. which for me.. bad behavior shouldn't be rewarded with a penalty.
