Henderson was my man of the match. However Johnson needs to be sold ASAP. Very nervy at times but nevertheless. It's 3 points to start the season off! YNWA
Great win today. Gerrard and Lucas don't work together and take each other out of the game so it was like we were a man down. Henderson was fantastic and was always involved in our best bits of play. Fantastic pass and great finish from Sterling. Allen and Lambert changed the game for allowing us to get the winner. Sturridge is so good at scoring winners, he did it often last season and done it again today. Lovern looked BOSS. It was great to see him commanding the defence but still Johnson was poor (apart from when he put of Long after they hit the bar). 3 points and on the Man City. YNWA.
Nervy match in all fairness! After the equaliser from southampton, it was nail biting. Then studge popped up and scored the winner and grabbed the 3 points! Happy days!
Our attack eventually pulled through in the end but my man of the match goes to mignolet today. He had several key stops that could have easily gone in and without those saves we would be sitting here with a loss. But instead we got the win. 3 points and on to the next! Bring on man shitty! YNWA

Joe is always a tank whenever he comes on but it seems like he can never keep that level up when he starts matches
Literally most people wrote us off from top 4 during pre-season, and that only added pressure on our lads and also with the departure of suarez. Sterling, hendo, and sturridge are the only 3 that I think that have relished the pressure and showed it in the game. Lovren looks boss, agree with paul on the "Hypia" mold. Young squad with loads of potential and hungry more than ever, what more can you ask for?! MOTM for me has to be hendo (was non stop at both ends, and his work rate and that pass to raheem was class), with mignolet as a close second. Bring on city!
Shakey performance, similar to arsenal the team was rather easy to beat but just not clicking.First game what do you expect, noones had a good game so far.

Lovren wasn't as sharp as he can be but he was carrying pelle in his back pocket all game
Manquilllo was alright but got caught to far forward a few times, Gerrard Sturidge and Coutinho were all quite and I don't see any place in the squad for Lucas and of course for John Glenson but Hendo and Sterling were brilliant, lovren played well considering he had all of the Southampton supporters on his back all game, Allan looked good from the bench and Mignolet is my hero
I know the match put my blood pressure through the roof but if you look back 2-3 years ago that was a Mach we would of drew or lost
A nervy win but 3 points is still 3 points. i thought Allen was great when he came on and Henderson's assist was fantastic. Mignolet made a couple of good saves, kept us in the game
We need to remember, we've got Moreno, Lallana and Marković to come into the team and add a bit more. Also, I think Lucas and Glenson need to be taken out the team for a while until they learn to get off their lazy arses and put something into the game.
Ultimately, however, it's the opening game of the season and we've got 3 points from one of our bogey teams. Let's not read too negatively into it.
A wins a win and thats what we needed to boost our confidence for the rest of the season .A strong experienced striker would do with champions league football also another strong defender .Gerrard and lucas didn't work get back to the diamond formation and hopefully less nervy games will return to anfield.Jordan Henderson gets MOTM for me not only because the way he played the work rate also.

Poor for 70 minutes but when Allen and Lambert came on the game changed INSTANTLY! Johnson needs a lay off after a long summer for him. Manquillo and Moreno for the City game. YNWA
What i'd like to see is now we have Moreno and manquillo, Brendan Rodgers using Enrique, Johnson as possible rotational wingers/wide midefielders and try them out in those positions in cup matches
Although Lambert was relatively quiet after he came on, his introduction have us a 'Plan B'. With him on we were able to play balls into the box, which inevitably led to Sturridge's goal.
I'm really glad that we can learn from our mistakes without losing points , after today's game , i would pick this starting 11 against city : Mignolet – Manquillo – Skrtel – Lovren – Moreno – Gerrard – Allen – Henderson – Sterling – Sturridge – Coutinho
For a first game and considering how surprisingly good Southampton were, I am quite happy with that performance. We basically controlled much of the first half, they came at us more in the 2nd and scored a very good goal, Rodgers responded by changing the formation and we put them back on the back foot. Manquillo for a 19 year old on his first full debut was outstanding and looks like a very safe pair of hands. Lovren looks awesome. I major gripe and caused me to abuse my TV screen no end was Glen I really cannot be arsed anymore Johnson, Jesus he has fallen a long long way, every time we lost possession usally it was on the end of his handy work, he ducked out of tackles, lost the ball and then continues to walk like he was in the park not a care in the world and his positioning was shocking … when they nearly scored toward the end i think he thought he was playiing RB … I think it was Shane Long he had the entire leftside of the box to himself … Moreno cannot start soon enough for me …. Not a huge fan of the 4231 but if its what required on occasions then so be it. Happy for Sterling and Sturridge, When Markovic comes into the team we will have that Ohh fuck we have to play Liverpool factor once again

Lucas and Johnson are Yesterdays players. Time to move them on. Got more youth, pace, energy and quality with Can, Allen, Lallana and Moreno to come in
Southampton is better then Liverpool
IN ALL CRITICAL GAMES, LIVERPOOL FOUND VULNERABLE IN THE START OF SECOND HALF, ESPECIALLY BETWEEN 45 TO 60 MINUTES. DESPITE ENJOYING A LEAD THEY BECOME CASUAL, ITS AN IMPORTANT PROBLEM RODGERS NEED TO ADRESS IMMEDIATELY. SAME HAPPENED LAST SEASON AGAINST CITY AND A NUMBER OF OTHER MATCHES….

Lambert had a key role in recycling the ball in the lead up to the winner, pure 100% heart which we didn't have coming off the bench last season.
I think we should go all out for Lavezzi. Sturridge is the main man, but Lavezzi could interchange with the wingers allowing Sterling to get into more central positions. The difference between that last season was simple. We had options. Joe Allen showed his importance in the final games of last season showing he can get a handle of games coming off the bench. Lucas closed well, but nothing else after that. Very cautious from Rodgers to play Gerrard and Lucas, but So'ton are now an unknown quantity. Clear we need another striker and we have other options to come in. Mignolet excellent with shot stopping and looks far more comfortable with Lovren in front. Future captain Lovren.

Overall just happy we won. Need to sell Lucas and Glenson, they just keep giving away possession and not making the right choices. I'm not the biggest Allen fan but when he can on he gave us more than both Lucas and Glenson did the whole game. Need Moreno and either Allen/Can in against City. Hope to that Flanagan returns to full fitness asap

This game is scaring me. If we had to play Henderson on the wing and not central, and Lucas over Can or Allen… I dunno man. This is scary stuff. People are saying we need another striker but our defense, again, does Rodgers know how to coach proper defense? Lovren was good, Manquillo was alright, Skrtel did his best, Johnson was woeful but even then, they just couldn't clear properly. Also every time Mignolet clears the ball, I get nervous. His ball distribution is awful and doesn't have the same dominance as other keepers in the BPL.
Allen calmed the game down. Go choice putting him on. Still need a striker.
