I don't see him as a successor to Kante personally at all – merely being energetic and closing players down doesn't make you a quality defensive midfielder. He's a goalscoring midfielder who can press and play in a 3 or more advanced, much more similar to Mount in that regard than Kante.
arguably the last missing piece of the jigsaw for chelsea is goals (or goal contributions) from midfield (aside from penalties, which can be taken by someone else in the squad). conor can provide that and the box-to-box energy and dribbling that kante or kovacic currently bring to the team. no reason at all why he can't form a crucial part of the pivot next year, assuming chelsea still play 3-4-3 by then
Wow I never really thought about this. Although he's not as good defensively as Kante I definitely see him better at that than Jorginho or perhaps even Kovacic. He's young so maybe he can get close to the level of Kante whilst adding his creativity element which Kante doesn't have

In FM terms, Kante is what you'd call a ball-winning midfielder. He's good at everything, but he is absolutely elite at breaking up opposition attacks and winning back possession. In addition, the role he's asked to play is also box-to-box, he has a lot of space to run into and is expected to make those runs. His final ball is lacking though and sees us waste a number of good attacking chances. Gallagher is much more competent at the box to box part but clearly needs to put more work into the ball-winning part if he is to be Kante's successor in this Chelsea side. I agree he is stylistically similar to Mount but he can play deeper for sure. Still very young and can develop that side of his game with time and coaching.
We just need a successor for Jorginho. As much as I like jorgi, I would much prefer a defensive midfielder that can organize and retain possession someone like a Declan rice or a Calvin Philips, rather than a regista that has strengthened his defensive game. As much as jorgi improved in that area of his game he still has issues in that area.

He's only good as the most advanced midfielder , when he's had to play further back like when kouyate was injured for palace he went missing , he's more like Aaron Ramsey than kante
It will be diferent making if he comes next year cause midfielder in chelasea lacks shoot and energy ⚡ like Connor who does, and like frank lampard i think he has enough brain to understand this what a player… He is wonderful
Nonsense, he doesn't fit the Chelsea team at all and is too similar to Mount who does all of those things. He should go to Man Utd, they need someone like him rn
He's not great at the 6 role. He's an 8. He's not going to replace Kante different player. There was a period where we had to play him deeper in the midfield thanks to injuries/absences due to Afcon and he wasn't really very good at it.
