  1. Joe Scally and KDF are two players that bring their unique styles which the USMNT lack. Greg Seems like he intentionally leaves off more talented players to prove a point that he win with less talent like he did in the Gold Cup. Prideful agenda?

  2. I understand not wanting to bring in an inexperienced youth player to high pressure WCQ games, but Scally was baptized by fire starting against Munich and holding his own. CONCACAF teams are gonna CONCACAF, but Scally would have been just fine.

  3. Yes, Scally was snubbed. His play suggests he is going to add value to the team and perhaps could be adding value to the team immediately.

That said he's 18 and never has been in a USMNT senior camp. It does make sense if Berhalter thinks he can win without him to not put pressure on an 18 year old player. Berhalter's tenure has been filled with young injured players. It can't be a fun position as a coach. I know I cringe a lot whenever a youth player goes down.

  4. ggg absolutely should've brought Scally. but, as i pointed out to the Straight Red Card guys, Scally's so versatile that it would be nearly impossible for GGG to play him out of position, so he's lacking one of GGG's apparently favorite player traits. (another favorite of ggg's: slow, but works hard)

  5. He was snubbed. But if he keeps this up, Gregg will have him in the next camp. Sort of like how Pepi had to wait a bit before coming into camp. The good news is that at 18, he still has plenty of time to make an impact for the USMNT.

  6. I agree, our goal is to get our best players at the next WC and if there are players preforming well right now they definitely deserve to get invited to camps. It's better for guys to start getting involved right now so that they can start getting familiar with the system and build chemistry with the players.

  7. "When he was a kid."

To some grownups, an 18 year-old is STILL a kid! (But I get what you're saying. It's just funny to hear that from an older perspective.)

    1) I wanted him in camp due to what he has done in the Bundesliga in the last 6 weeks or so.
    2) He has had 6 weeks as a top level professional.
    (A) Perhaps the idea is to let him get adjusted before throwing national team pressure on him.
    (B) Perhaps Araujo has not yet filed for his one-time switch quite yet and bringing in the likes of Shaq Moore rather than Joe Scally is a signal that the door is still wide open for Araujo and that perhaps he should continue to wait before submitting that signed paperwork for his one-time switch.

^ Pure hopeful speculation on my part.

  8. This is a World Cup qualifying window. You can't bring a player that you aren't willing to put in a match. Scally has 26 appearances as a pro, and he's 18. Is it really that "shocking" not to include him? How many national team players make their debuts in WCQ matches? I don't think it's all that common among teams that "expect" to qualify for the world cup, unless their opponents are very weak.

  9. Great assessment…would also included Bello or Moore for SCALLY….GB might want him to completely sow his place up at Gladbach..he will be there in November…u r right A Robinson and Dest(Yedlin too)are not good 1 v1 on defense…I think SCALLY could start now…also GB'S experiment with wing backs for the most part -not working…we don't have World class wing backs….Dest better mf'er….he can't beat 3 guys and. then 2x's in a row beat 2 guys and lose ball at top of 18-starting counters….Pulisic,Reyna,Hoppe do it too sometimes….go YANKEES..USMNT!

  10. This kid is young and he’s going to get plenty of call ups. He’s only had a hand full of Sr starts. We had enough players underachieve during the last call up. No need to force him in. His time will come.

  11. Berhalter didn't call in someone playing every single game in the Bundesliga but brought in a player who has only played 50 minutes in the Spanish second division

  12. If Scally is ANYTHING like Douglas Maicon we need to get him up to speed and starting ASAP. Maicon was an outstanding player. And Tac, Maicon never had to play on the opposite because Javier Zanetti was always there in Inter’s lineup.

  13. Scally has earned a call up, he competes in a top league every week, sees plays against some of the world’s top talent weekly. He should be considered over Shaq, Vine s, Bello, Cannon and Yedlin. Gotta Go Greg, is screwing the pooch again!

  14. Great video! I love these background videos to introduce the players. I would love to see a playlist of all the USMT players with a video for each of them. Especially if you add in where they might best be used in the USMT squad. To answer your question, Scally should have been called up just to get the experience of being there even if he rode the pine the entire time.

  15. By GaGG's own rationale for excluding Scally, he made a case for why he shouldn't be the coach. Brilliant! GaGG, step down immediately!!!!
