Why is it that the American Sports Network's only English language Soccer show continues to mock and make fun of MLS and US soccer at every turn? Its bad enough that you rarely even have an American as part of the couch conversations. At least some of them played or coached in MLS. But just seems every segment, every comment is a sarcastic joke with no real intent to talk about positives or negatives. Its all just a comedy show.

I've never understood why anyone finds abusing the host "cute." And while I imagine Burley, for one, thinks it comes across as good-natured ribbing, to me it plays as a character flaw being acted out for the audience's cringe-worthy "benefit." Anytime the host appears to be thinking "oh, brother, here we go again" it was a bad idea for whichever panelist to have interrupted matters with said "cheekiness." Substitute "boring and uncomfortable waste of time" for "cheeky" and you're closer to how it plays on TV, guys.

Berhalter is a good coach. There is only one young American coach I'd consider in his place, and that's Jesse Marsch, and I agree with his attempt to storm the gates of Europe, so Berhalter it is.
I have no interest in a foreign coach, because the real issue with the US national team has nothing to do with management and everything to do with expanding the player base. Having an American coach who has played in the big time and understands both the American youth sporting culture and the club situation in Europe is critical. The only way we are going to improve is if more young athletes choose soccer and stay with the game.
The truth is the American fan base will never be happy unless we dominate in soccer the way we dominate in basketball. They like the USWNT team because we do dominate in that, but that's just the point – we have more women's players in the United States than in the rest of the world combined, just as we have more basketball players in the United States than the rest of the world combined. But soccer in the USA isn't a top tier men's sport. It doesn't draw a lot of top tier athletes. It's doesn't draw nearly the money. It's not something that the high school kid who wants to be popular and impress the girls plays. The guys with the football pin on their letterman jacket outrank the nerds that play soccer and everyone knows it. So they are never going to be happy, because they are always convinced we are just a manager change away from being competitive with the Germans or French.
