I covered that match as a member of the media, it was Riverdale's Joel Stockwell, who tied Mena. The reaction on the mat at the end, picture Louden Swain defeating Schute only this time it was a tie. (At least, that's how I recall it). Stockwell would go on to finish third at state behind Mena at 125 pounds that season (He was a sophomore). Stockwell won state at 130 his junior season, and placed second at 135 as a senior. Stockwell is now a successful head coach at Rock Island (Ill.) High School. Saw many of Mena's big high school matches. He was at a whole another level.
