I’ve noticed the less muscly gymnasts seem to have better flexibility. Is there a trade off between muscle power and flexibility?
I know all gymnast are flexible (hello jump split), but Nastia seems both more flexible and less powerful than Shawn Johnson for example
They were giants on the beam. Nowadays the performance on the beam are clearly simpler and easier
It's clear that Cheng's routine was much more difficult than Pavlova's beautiful ballet.

I felt Pavlova was over scored a bit. The level of difficulty was far lower than others. No tumbles/saltos or Arabian. Very safe difficulty. The first Chinese was better than her. Romanians always got VERY generous scoring back in this era. Wouldn’t happen now with the code we have.
Shawn Johnson was amazing. Nastia was great also but played it safe with the difficulty level.

Even though I think Cheng Fei may have been overscored here, I love her style. Such authority. And her back pike is a true pike-no bent knees.
Anyone who can balance on 4 inches, act against gravity and win is hard core for sure!!

Best beam final in olympic history. Shame to see the blatant overscoring of the home team. The Chinese ladies seemed to get an extra point added just for showing up. Nastia was the queen of swinging her arms to mask broken connections for her entire career.
Watching them compete at these Olympics made me so very proud to have them both representing our country they are the epitomy of what our country stands for
Anna Pavlova estuvo muy bien pero los jueces favorecieron a cheng fei que cuando sale la calificación ni ella se la cree obvio que estuvo muy fuerte el boicot a Rusia y la gimnasta qué más le afectó fue a Pavlova

Essa foi a ultima competicao olimpica na trave de alto nivel. Atualmente, nesse aparelho, as ginastas fazem apenas o minimo. Simone Biles e Rebeca Andrade se aposentando nem vai ter mais graça em assistir isso.
I notice looking back that Cheng Fei doesn’t dance on the beam at all. Very static.

Nastia luikin beam routine was like ballet. Just beautiful.
Anna pavlova beam was way smoother than cheng fei. She should have gotten bronze in my opinion.
Apart from the fall deduction, Li Shanshan would have overtaken Cheng Fei by like four tenths. She was great and I really wish she hadn't fallen because her routine was beautiful. I mean, the layout combo at the start? Pure Awesomeness
I thought Pavlova's bid for bronze was quite strong. 💜
