Very good squad. Defense is a little suspect but that's all we have to work with right now, Hummels is too slow as a CB for the World game.
Devastated about Lukas Nmecha injury. I was too hyped to see him possibly start upfront with Werner out. Would like to Havertz play up front with Musiala and Moukoko. Not sure why Goetze is here

First off a compliment to OP, nice to see someone on Youtube that clearly watches the Bundesliga and knows something about German football.
I can honestly say I am shocked and pretty disappointed in Flick and some of his choices. The media go on about about Hansi like he is the second coming of Christ and a superior Manager to Löw, I kind of question this at times.
What he got right:
For the most part Flick got it right with his selections, but these two picks stand out to me.
1) Niclas Füllkrug: It's about time Füllkrug got the call-up to the National Team, I have personally been calling for this for years and it's nice to see this finally happen. He is an actual Number 9! We will see if Flick actually uses him though.
2) Julian Brandt: Always been a fan of his play, although he has lacked form at times. The pro to him is that he is versatile. His preferred position is Forward at Winger, but he can also play CAM.
What he got wrong:
With saying the majority of his picks were right, he got a lot wrong too!
1)The World Cup is NOT a platform to test out all your future prospects! This is the World Cup! A team should always be selected with a perfect blend of both youth and veteran presence, it's that simple. Your Senior leaders are Neuer, Müller and who Götze? Who's been absent since 2017. Not enough leadership on this squad, guys like Hummels and Kroos and their pedigree on the pitch make everyone else feel 6 inches taller out there. Closing point, you pick the best possible players at the current time to try and win a World Cup!
2) Mats Hummels: World class Defender, World Cup champion, a leader, in form, healthy, solid defensively, solid positionally, an excellent tackler, exceptional ball distributor and an aerial threat on set pieces. His omission is a disgrace and I will leave it at that.
3) Toni Kroos: When Kroos retired from International Football after Euro 2020, he made a comment something along the lines that Hansi will prefer Kimmich or Goretzka going forward. This is laughable to me in the sense where Toni Kroos would be in virtually every other squads Starting XI no questions asked. If I was Hansi I'd be saying: "You are World Class player, many other World Class players are much older than you and still going at it, what can I do to make you stay?" I know Kroos is definitely never short for words, but feeling appreciated like that he may have stuck around. To me Kroos is still far superior to anyone else in his position, this includes both Gündoğan and Goretzka.
4) Not carrying another CDM: Yes Gündoğan and Goretzka can play CDM in theory, for me it's not their strongest position. When I think of German CDM's of the past I think of Torsten Frings, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Sami Khedira. Guys that were absolute machines out there and absolute vacuums that could shut down attacking opponents. Kimmich is the only legit CDM I see on this squad and that could be problematic barring injury. Insert: Can, Neuhaus, Arnold, Andrich, Demirbay, Kramer, Weigl, Stach, Dorsch, Khedira, Serdar, Demme, someone, anyone that actually plays this position lol.
5) Robin Gosens: Another horrible call here by Hansi. While I appreciate his excuse of him not playing much this season and recommending he go to the Bundesliga to get back to regular playing time, Gosens showed at Euro 2020 he can be an absolute menace at LB/LWB with this pace, creativity and solid crosses into the box. A prime example of this is the Euro 2020 game where he was Man Of The Match by absolutely thrashing the perennial overrated Portuguese National Team.
6) Armel Bella: 20 years old (Soon to be 21), minimal Senior International experience (1 Cap to his name), at this point NOT better than Hummels! Would have a had a conversation with him and said: "Be ready for Euro 2024" and left him at home for this tournament.
7) Karim Adeyemi: I 110% agree with OP, Adeyemi has lacked form and I would have left him at home. Would tell him to keep progressing for Euro 2024 though.
8) Flick to me seems to be a people pleaser in the sense he makes major promises to players that have dual nationality and if they don't get their way initially they will go play for another Nation. If mixed nationality players or immigrants (Afghanis, Syrians, Africans, Bosnians, Turks, Iranians, Kosovars, etc.) don't want to play for Germany, then see you later.
Debatable Inclusions & Exclusions:
1) Mario Götze: Surprising inclusion or not? He has for sure got back to form for Frankfurt; but, he is still not the player he once was many years ago when he was called "German Messi." Hopefully he proves us all wrong if he plays.
2) Christian Günter: I know OP loves Günter, this is the one point we may debate lol. He's not a bad LB by any means, but he's a player I may have left at home. For me LB depth chart is (Pending formation): Raum, Gosens, Kehrer and then Günter.
3) Youssoufa Moukoko: I think this player could be a big part of the future for sure, he's likely on the squad due to injuries to Forwards Werner, Nmecha and Reus. For me I am not sure I take a 17/18 year old kid to a World Cup. Moukoko is interesting where the media pushes the guy like he's the Messiah. I have watched him play and sure he's pretty good, but he plays on Dortmund one of the better Bundesliga sides. If he's playing for Schalke does he produce like he does? I doubt it.
4) Kevin Volland: Established Striker, proven goalscorer, can play ST, CF, RW, LW possibly even some SS or CAM. He would have been on my squad.
5) Hany Mukhtar: Just won MLS MVP. While I agree MLS is not the highest level of football on the planet in comparison to European leagues, he should at least get a look in the near future for at minimum a Friendly or two and see how he does.
6) Julian Draxler: Similar to Brandt always been a fan of his play, has lacked form at times, Senior player, a leader, former Captain and Vice-Captain, versatile player (Natural position is LW but can play RW and CAM as well).
Thinking Outside the Box For Inside the Box:
When I think of German Strikers of fairly recent past years I think of Miroslav Klose, Kevin Kurányi and Mario Gómez. All three had stronger points over the other yes, but all three were tall and had an aerial presence inside the box. What Germany has now are small speedy type Wingers and Second Strikers, so essentially False 9's primarily and not target men. Now by no means am I saying any of these players are World Class, but below are a list of German Strikers that play in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga primarily. I have always thought why not try some of them out during Friendlies and see what happens using a tall powerful Striker inside the box area. The German attack for years and years has relied so heavily on crosses from the Wings into the box. With this you are crossing the ball to small ST/CF under 6 feet tall against opposing CB's and GK's that are 6'2" +, more often than not you are losing the battle for headers. If you are losing a match with ten minutes to go, might not hurt to try and throw on a 6'2" – 6'5" big bodied Striker when you are pressing with crosses into the box, getting set pieces and corners.
Florian Niederlechner 6’2”, Daniel Ginczek 6’3”, Philipp Hofmann 6’5”, Tim Kleindienst 6’4”, David Selke 6’4”, Marvin Ducksch 6’2”, Janni Serra 6’4”, Hendrik Weydandt 6’5". Will likely never happen (Although over time I have wanted to see Niederlechner and Selke get a crack), but if I was a Manager I'd want someone who has an aerial presence that can actually get a head on the ball towards the net.
The main problem with this squad selection is that central/defensive midfield is very light. If Kimmich gets injured or suspended, that's the end of everything. There isn't even a single outright defensive midfielder in the squad. A couple of no nonsense destroyers who throw themselves into every challenge are missing. There is no one on the bench to fit this role. Like a Robert Andrich, Christopher Kramer, Rani Khedira or even Emre Can kinda guy. Gündi is more of a nr. 8, so is Goretzka. If anything happens to any of those to, Musiala has to play in that spot, and that's nowhere near his best position. Seriously, what's Flick gonna do? Bring in Kehrer or Raum off the bench to plug holes in midfield? No tactical options.
I don't like the way Flick is handling this tournament, like it's not important because the team is in transition. A learning experience before home Euros.
the path seems to me well laid out. In addition to Messi's Argentina, France and Germany are the most likely to win. These are complete selections. Belgium and Spain are a little behind and so is Denmark. Brazil doesn't have so much confidence to beat Spain for example or Denmark that beat France in the nations. Brazil has to go through Serbia and Switzerland, which maybe eliminate Pelé's widows in the group stage.
