My compliments to all the captains, shop owners, friends and fans of Fred in speaking about his life. I love that everyone felt the same way about how Fred was such a positive influence in their life, not just fishing but how to be a good person. It's an inspiration to share knowledge and lead by example. The men and women he touched will be better people and the world is a better place because of Fred.

I would always renew my subscription to the fisherman at one of the many fishing shows around the island. More often than not it was Fred who would renew my subscription. A great guy always full of conversation about fishing. Rest in piece Fred and God Bless you and your family.

A few years ago during the South Shore surf classic my wife was probably one of two or three female anglers that entered the tournament. She weighed in a nice bass but got knocked out by the end and did not place. When Fred was finished announcing all the winners he called up my wife and gave her the choice to pick any surf rod before they got raffled off. That was an awesome gesture . Rest in peace Fred 🙏🏻🎣
RIP to a real one
I met Fred once at a fishing flea market, we talked for about a half hour. He really was a nice guy from what I saw. I read his stuff since the 80's and always enjoyed it, him and Matt Ahern. Let him rest in peace !! Tight lines Fred !!
Great job Matt on a very somber report. That couldn't have been easy yet you were professional and did a great tribute to Fred. I only wish l had met him. A true legend. Thanks Matt.

Years ago I was a newbie to Montauk and went out there with my friend who was very familiar with the situation. There was a blitz on the backside and everyone converged at once. My friend wisely just sat back amused at what he knew would happen. Crossed lines, mayhem. Zero etiquette. Someone stepped on my rod and crushed a guide. Fred shows up. They parted like the red sea and gave him all the room he needed and then some.
