What a strange predicament to be in. Alistair Johnston and Alphonso Davies have been out of the CMNT for some time and their replacements in Niko Sigur (right back) and Ritchie Laryea (left back) have been stellar over the past few International Friendlies. I don't see how you can leave Sigur and Laryea off the pitch. I would try to start Sigur in the Midfield if indeed Alistair Johnston can come back at a full 100% in the spring. However, I would not move Laryea. If Davies can get back to full fitness in the spring, I would slot him into a completely free roaming #10 and let him run wild. I am deeply concerned about the current mental state of Jonathan David. He looks depressed, lacking confidence and totally out of it. The longer this goes with him not getting minutes at Juventus, the more damage is going to be done to his Psyche.
– Jonathan David’s form has drastically dropped and this directly correlates to Canada’s goal drought.
– Kamal Miller is not good enough to play on the NT
– With how good Laryea has been at LB, I would give some consideration to a 4-3-3; in which the front 3 are Davies, David & Buchanan. Midfield 3 any combination of Eustaquio, Kone, Saliba, Ahmed, Choiniere, Sigur. Think this formation needs to be seriously explored
Promise making Jesse look foolish and stuborn PD must be first sub off the bench for striker!.Max should 💯 be the starter and it's not close do not trust DSC to come up big when called upon!
People understandably frustrated with J. Davids lack of scoring have to ask themselves how many opportunities does he actually get in a game and how is he being used. He is covering way too much ground out there.
Promise should be coming on at the 60 or 70 mins mark every single game. He can't start because he can't perform Marsch's press. But he only needs 20 or 30 mins to make his impact.
Lareya has been our best defender, and overall CANMNT best player this year. JD was awful last night. Of course , he has a lot credit in the bank, but by March he better come off this funk ,otherwise we will have to ask some questions. The midfield was drowning too against Venezuela. Promise David needs to play more. The only place were Davies can start is in LW imo.
One in Ten Tani can be very effective at defending a lead OR when a tie is the objective. Otherwise, start P David, get up a goal, and sub in Tani thereafter…
Guys your conversation about J David is missing the HEART of the problem. J David is dropping deep BECAUSE we have no offense coming from our midfield. Eustaquio plays like a 6 and although Kone plays like an 8, the demand to be defensive is great. Thus no one has the time to play an attacking 8 or 10. I would love to see Saliba added as an 8 and David pushed to a 9 and ask the midfield to start creating an attack.
I think when CMNT have a high press, like against Ukraine J. David is closer to goal and the gap between the striker is substantially less. When we mid block press its possible the gap is much greater hence needing to cover more ground to get into the box. Just my observation

Start Promise David, he gets a couple of goals and then bring on Tani to close it down and maybe score another. Haha. Easy!
Promise's celebration was rather muted. I wonder if it was the lack of atmosphere or a little unhappiness coming through with his lack of minutes.

Takeaways following all of these friendlies:

Richie for captain

I love tani's press but promise david is a confident goal scorer and i would love to see him get more minutes.
Wheels may have forgotten the impact Bruce Wilson and Mike Sweeney had on the CMNT. Both left backs!

We’re becoming too high on Laryea I think, MVP is clearly Tajon or JD
How does Wheels still have a job

Richie Laryea has been the MVP throughout this year. He is the player the team can lean on.
BUY OR SELL; If Richie starts in the group stage he wins a PK.

Love the take on Laryea, I think Notting Hill made a mistake with him

Laryea or Cornelius should 100% be the MVP in 2025. Others worth mentioning are J David, Buchanan and Sigur…

Wheels, stop doubling down on your thoughts & trying to insert your arguments, as both Oliver & AG nailed it with all of their answers.
As Juventus and Canada fan, really want Spaletti to give David more chances… Enough with Dusan, he's on the outs anyways
