The most underappreciated manager in MLS. If anyone else was doing what he has done in Miami or LA people would be saying they’re the greatest manager ever to do it. 4 MLS Cup finals in 5 years, 2 won, Leagues Cup, and a CCL. A better resume than most out there and has never been voted Manager of the Year.
Great interview. I love the calmness that always comes through in Smetzer’s interviews. It’s the type that only comes with confidence in knowing your sh!t. Severely under recognized.
Caps fans here. Can't help but love Schmetzer. I'm also a US citizen living in Vancouver, so I'm curious how Sounders fans would feel about a post-Poch Schmetzer USMNT. I can't help but feel like the core USMNT fanbase can be toxic as hell and doesn't deserve him or have the patience for the continuity (and time he would need) to build culture. On the other hand, Pochettino might be all about lemons and energy, but you can tell he's kind of a hardass who expects a lot of intensity in addition to the ~vibes~, which has whipped our group into shape and propelled MLS guys like our Berhalter, your Roldan, Freeman, Robinson… etc etc.
Loved how Athletico always had immediate pressure on the ball and how the Sounders players picked that up to make their great run deep into the season. And how can Schmetzer not be coach of the year or even on the short list?

Comparing to the humbled Silvetti, this young kid Obed Vargas is too childish.
Turf is what saved these guys

MLS is producing quality National Team players.

Fantastic interview, Herc. Great to hear Brian's expansive answers. Well done!
The critics of Roldan typically do not understand what mid-fielders do.

All that work developing Obed to lose him on a free. When you have a poverty owner you can't lose Obed on a free but here we are.
Great interview, well done, and lots of great info! Compliments to Herc!
