Regardless as to where Sargent plays over the next few months, I don't think it makes much of a difference with the national team. He has received numerous chances this cycle, and hasn't been good with them. It was true when he was scoring with Norwich, has continued now that they are a bottom-feeder, and would still be the case if he goes to Toronto. I'm sure being on a bad team is a miserable experience, raising a kid that is getting to be school-aged is tougher when distanced from extended family, and the fear of missing out on a lucrative move to TFC makes it so he doesn't want to wait. If it happens, fine. The US will have a new coach in the fall, and Sargent will likely get another look at some point if he does well with his club team. When that national team opportunity next happens, he will need to better than he has in the past. People have to realize the English Championship isn't what it was a decade ago. Teams are limited in how much money owners can light on fire, and cannot raid good players from the 2nd divisions of France or Germany or the poorer teams in Portugal and the Netherlands because they can work visa-free. There are going to be instances where players will make more money and be in a better spot going from MLS to the Championship, but also vice versa. This isn't jersey scouting. This isn't some fantasy about what can be learned from playing in Europe. We have seen this with players going to and from MLS and Liga MX for years now. It is a job change, and you don't need to add any more meaning to it.
It's unfortunate that this is the path he wants to goi would have preferred he stay in Europe and go back to Bundesliga, but hey this will set his family up for a generation I can't fault him for that.
Big fail. How many millions must be chased? Thankfully, it makes no difference to USMNT.
He had a medical at Wolfsburg then pulled out. Apparenrtly his wife wants to move back to North America. He also wanted Norwich to take Cincy's $15M offer last year.
I read somewhere that Sargent was on striike at Norwich 🤥
lmao the red headed jozy altidore
That was pretty cool Herc. Sharing some of the profesional things you went through with Santos and Jurgeun.
MLS is equivalent to lower level bottom feeders in the EPL. So how would Sargent fair against those teams ? Latte Lath just didn't work out in the MLS. Lots of money💰 for a player in "Second Tier Footbool". Hard Pass for me !!!
If you think the MLS is a higher level than the Championship you know nothing about football. MLS full of has beens and nobodies.
Only reason is back to north America to be closer to family.
Sargent was sold for 23 million pounds in the summer to The Bundesliga, he didn't want to go. So now he's under contract. Likely be left to train on his own.
JOSH SARGENT IS NOT I REPEAT NOT WORTH $18 MORE LIKE $1.80
MLS is a sidestep from most Championship teams at this point if you go by Transfer value , wages spent, as well as looking at the individual player quality. MLS is selling players to the Championship and vice-versa. This is not nearly as much a downgrade as if he was playing in a Top 5 league and was an actual top talent, like if a Johnny Cardoso or Tim Weah decided to come to MLS. It really is not that big of a deal from a sporting side.
Earnie Stewart on the Call It What You Want podcast said that Pepi has/had a "meniscus injury".
He also said Fulham made a 25 million dollar bid for Pepi.
Come to LA Galaxy!
