England should have started Sancho and Grealish, and brought in Rashford after half time. They were too timid against Italy. Better to attack and win or lose 3-0 or 2-1 than go out agonizingly by PKs.
England problem is always same…they don't have creative midfielder…or at least a player than can dictate the game….the tempo…when to attack quick and when to play possesion…they lack skill too….
Southgate far too woke to be a winning football manager
According to Southgate he would have kept Messi and Ronaldo on the bench and put them in only if England needed a goal. He had 400 million pound worth of subs.

I totally agree with Burleys assessment – the mistake was sleep walking to penalties knowing full well the Italians are/were very experienced at tournament penalty shoot outs. Losing on penalties isn’t the issue – it’s that England didn’t go for the win during the actual game. That’s what still sickens Me even now.
Southgate was terrible all tournament, started Trippier at LB with one of the best LB’s in the world rn (Shaw) and a CL winning LB (Chillwell), rotated his young players like he was playing a video game, benched Foden even tho ge played fantastic every minute, and made terrible subs every single game, squad made him look good, another manager might have won it
The real question is what sane manager in the world would leave out Grealish and Foden our two most creative players in the modern British football era. If only Pep were in charge, he would have played them both and we would have easily won it, but instead we are stuck with a conservative lefty woke manager who is more interested in our players kneeling than winning.

Italy have come a long way, I remember the Euro 2000 Final between them and France. Delvechio scored in 18th minute for Italy..and after that they just defended that lead like England did in this Final….result? France scored with less than a minute of FT to go and went onto win.
