Josh Sargent cooked the EFL Championship though. Hopefully TFC makes some smart transfer moves throughout the 2026 MLS season. Not sure why this comment section is hating.
The fee is actually 20 million pounds not dollars. Big fee for the MLS but not huge for the Championship. Norwich agreed a fee of 23 million pounds for Sargent with Wolfsberg, Sargent didn't go. I think you need to research a little more. You sound like amateurs. MLS is Lge 1 level at best. Sargent should score a few for Toronto.
Chances are, he won't make the US national team for the next world cup. Couldn't even stay at Norwich ( 17th in the Championship league) . A lot of money for an overrated player. Expect another struggling season for TFC.
Norwich fan here. Will definitely be keeping an eye on Toronto now as I always liked Josh. I needed a new MLS team to follow after Pukki (another of our ex-goats) left Minnesota. 🤷🫶
I genuinely believe that Josh will score 20+ goals for you in a season – he's scored for fun in the Championship, even when playing with (at times) more mediocre players supporting him.
I just hope he stays fit for you guys – he had a bit of a dodgy injury record for us at time. He would hit great form and then you would suddenly see him on crutches, usually resulting in our season falling apart. No refunds if this does happen whilst he's with you. 😅
Norwich fan. Sargent is an above average striker, one that has decent patches but needs three chances to score one goal. He’s a weird player, does everything right and is a team player when he’s happy, but when he’s not he throws his toys out of the pram – hence how and why he left Norwich and Werder Bremen.
As for his price tag. I’m with you I don’t think he’s worth that much, but then I don’t think many players are worth what they’re bought and sold for. It’s market forces and Norwich agreed a £20+ million deal for him in the summer which although ultimately turned down meant whatever team came in next would have to come close to that market value.
As a Norwich fan I’m actually pretty ambivalent about him moving on, but good luck to him and TFC.
Josh is not just a great striker but excellent at defending corners. You have a quality player and luckily Norwich City don't miss him because we have recruited goal scorers. I have met Josh and he is a good person and that's why it was a shock how he handled himself with wanting this move. At least he has moved to a better country than the current authoritarian USA.
Oh, and yes, thanks for Ali Ahmed. A great intelligent player.
Ill say the same thing i said about Latte Lath last year, for that money Sargent needs to hit the ground running, if he doesn't score 20 goals a season or get 30 G/A then hes not been worth the money, i think hes capable of that (and obviously someone at Toronto does too, or they wouldn't have spent that kind of money on him) now he has to go out there and prove it
Why does everyone have a problem with the acquisition cost? lol it’s a DP signing. It’s actually irrelevant how much they paid. Furthermore, MLSE has bottomless pockets. They can sign as many $22m players as they’d like.
For the people freaking out. Go read and educate how the salary cap works. It’s literally irrelevant how much he makes or how much they’ve paid. Are we just looking for something to complain about?
Good when he’s going and should have produced more at NCFC. Always a grafter but had a few injury spell. Keep him fit he’ll prove his worth. Good luck Josh. 💛💚💛✌️
Who cares about the transfer fee? It's MLS, he's counting as a DP on the CAP regardless. MLSE is plenty rich enough to spend the money on the transfer fee.
Ollie, there was zero indication that the Italians would come over and have a bad attitude/work ethic. Neither of them had a history of that. They came over underestimating the level of play in the league (like so many Europeans) and thought they would coast to a comfy paycheque and big numbers. Sargent on the other hand has just shown the type of character that he has before he ever landed in Toronto.

TERRIBLE BUY
Big mistake.
Ha ,… step out Insigne and the other, and here's come another, too funny
Lol.. well TFC at least you have hope..

Please lend whitecaps 22mil so they can play another year in mls, will be money well spent
Josh Sargent is a top striker and as a Norwich city fan I wish him all the best in the future 💛💚🇬🇫👏💰🇺🇲
Paid way too much for him
what a waste of money
They had 13 goals in Prince Owusu and let him walk for basically nothing.
Waste

Good god what a monumental waste of money on a mediocre player

Waste of money, plenty of other options..
In the right system Josh will score a ton of goals for you. You paid the going rate for a prolific Championship striker.
moronic signing . TFC sure doesn't do its homework
Goodbye to the disgraceful Josh Sargent. He won't be fit to play for 70% of any given season.Glad to get him & his ameteur agent out & off our books!

Very good debate lads nice one ! –
Another foolish move from the brain trust at TFC. He is a mediocre player at best.
If he can score 20
This is kind of like the Jozy move. He was trash with Sunderland and ripped up mls when he got to toronto

Gone at last, so now NCFC can move on.
