Why is this a shocker ? I wouldn’t have taken him either. The shocker would’ve been if he didn’t take el Piojo Alvarado because Aguirre absolutely LOVES this winger who produces -0 on the pitch constantly yet he still calls him up and starts him every match. Guaranteed starter for this World Cup.
Every time I see Alexis Vega on the national team, he looks slow, maybe not tip top shape. I heard he had changed his diet and stopped eating tortillas. Can’t blame him if he went back to the tortillas. The flour ones are delicious.
Alexis hasn’t done anything in the last 3 months tbh. Neither has Luis Chavez. And the fact he’s in the list is just insane. He’s been off of activity for 6 months. Another reason I can’t fully support Mexico.

If Edson is not in form then the obvious replacement is Lira but Edson has proven over the years that he is a player with temperament and a leader. If he is healthy he has to start.. The so called wingers don’t bring anything to the table. I think Brian, Obed and Gilberto will bring dynamic playing and shock the world but they need teammates to protect them and they need strikers to finish the plays with their passes.

Herc is completely right. Vega had his shot. Zendejas would have fulfilled this team but you win some and you lose some. Hopefully Chino can start and quickly fill this void. Hopefully Piojo won't make Javi regret stringing him along. We're still waiting for an assist or goals from a winger for once. If not, then it's time to overload the midfielders..
