World cup shuld be just the best of the best national teams, he's absolutely right
It's WORLD CUP… so relax. The best will find a way to win in a tough tournament.
By that logic, a tournament with 8 or 4 teams would provide even greater, extreme value. This is clearly not the case. The rarity does not lie in the number of teams. It is in the fact that the tournament occurs once every 4 years, and there can be only one winner. The value is in the rarity of the tournament. The additional teams added more excitement and heartbreak to a greater number of spectators around the world. As teams get knocked out we inevitably end up at the same stages of previous smaller tournaments. Also, value generally depends on demand. In a sense, the more teams, the greater the demand.
This question is a 1998 question not 2026. Look at your statistics before yo ask a question as a journalist in the first place. Just little children with microphones. Check how many African teams come and how many made it out of the first round against any others continent. African had 10 teams 9 made it to the next stage that is 90 percent. Europe had 16 teams only 10 made it to the next stage that 60 percent. Please do your home work as a journalist before asking questions.
