guy who steps in and wants to score. sounds like Lindstrom. I sounded like they were talking about two guys potentially available at 5. I dont think the habs were thinking about Eiser at 5th overall.
I have said this elsewhere, but it still applies.
This is why I like KH so much. His approach is exactly what I would do if I was GM, squeeze out as much value as you can, the small gains will become big over time. I have always been a fan of this.
Defencemen are being overvalued? Trade Chiarot for a 1st and Romanov for 14th OA. Calgary has an Incompetent GM? Trade for Monahan and a 1st, which turned into 2, 1sts. Penguins want Karlsson? Get a free 2nd, 3rd and 4th while also moving a bad contract in Hoffman (as much as it hurts me personally, I try to keep that separate from what I like vs how I feel).
The 2nd from Edmonton for Kulak is amazing. From what we saw in the draft BTS 2022, they took a calculated risk to leave Hutson to hope he gets to 62, because they knew Beck wouldn’t. That’s genius.
Signing deals that leave the team with long term cap space once the bad deals expire.
And the result of these wins over time was that they had a ton of LD and were one of the only teams who could afford to jump on opportunities, like Laine.

Definetely lidstrom not eiserman
The fact that they had a trade in place even if Eiserman was available at 21 kinda prove that they weren't interested that much (or at all).
A lot of Habs fans were saying that they might've taken Eiserman if the 2 were available, but this video prove that Hage was ahead on their list, or they would've call off the trade offer before they knew who was available at 21.

Eiserman wasn't on Montreal's list of players they wanted. Demidov, Hage were their top picks. If Demidov was taken, they would of traded down. If Hage was taken, then you saw in the video that they had a trade in place to trade down. There was no way that Montreal would of picked Eiserman at pick 5 and pick 21 they wanted Hage.
Montreal were looking at outside of Demidov, Lindstrom if Demidov was taken higher. Lindstrom would of been available then. Iginla really wasn't on their radar since that top 5 pick was probably going to be traded down if they couldn't get either Demidov or Lindstrom. They were very high on both players at pick 5. Hage they expected to be taken in the late teens or 20's where they got him.
