Christ, talk about negative. The man even picks his wide attackers on what they offer defensively. If we had a progressive, forward thinking manager (Graham Potter, for example) we could be one of the best teams in the world. But we don't, so we aren't.

A great defensive performance away against a very strong German team, but we needed a bit more attack and players making themselves available to bring the ball out, not to keep passing the ball back to the goalie. Clearly we missed Kevin Phillips in that part of the game where support is given to bring the ball out from the back and in Bellingham we did not have a replacement for Phillips able to cover that job, so we suffered and kept giving the ball back to Germany with no way out when closed down high up the pitch. That changed the whole game and shows why Phillips is so good, not just in contributing to attacks and in defensive play, but also in bringing the ball out composed. With Phillips back, it will be different at Wembley. And sorry, but you would think this was the first time Graelish has come on as a sub or started for England. Since when was 25 mins in how many he has appeared make him a priority for England. You would think he had 2 assists and a goal in this game, or that we didn't have chances that were missed before he came on. These pundits who have their favourites have to think about England with logical facts not as some computer game with their favourite characters and grow up. Peace and love.

Grealish is a City player and has more tactical acumen in his pinky toe than Southgate has in his entire body. Southgate being sly about Grealish because he embarrassed him by coming on and smashing it, demonstrating he should have been in the starting lineup. Southgate is an absolute clown and England are winning nothing with him in charge.

England wont be able to beat teams in the 50 degree heat in Qatar if they cannot hold possession and dictate the tempo of the game.
It all starts from the GK. Pickford's distribution was terrible. I presume he was told to kick long by Southgate because they were scared of Germany's press. The GK is a key role in possession football and helps relieve pressure from the defence and midfield when playing out. The right decision by the GK will help Eng build out from the back.
Rice is a good defender but needs to improve his awareness and build up play from that pivot position. it should be the position to dictate the tempo of the game and where a team recycles possession and builds from. Again don't think he has the decisions for this.
Finally the midfield and wing backs need to make option for the DM and need to be able to turn and drive forward between the lines to commit defenders and open up space.
The tactic by Southgate is way to 'defensive'. I reality the best defence is to keep the ball. Having two DM's good at tackling shows you are setting up a tactic to not have possession. And invite teams to attack against you. Therefore, Eng's tactic it a counter that is based on luck and a quick ball forward to sterling or saka.
There needs to be more emphasis on ball retention.
