It blows my mind how terrible the USSF website has been for the past several years. They could just outsource that responsibility to passionate fans with programming skills who would gladly do that for free, and the end result would be far superior to what we have now. How is the Spanish-language content on the site still almost non-existent when that’s a huge portion of soccer fans and players in this country? It would just take a week or two to make a Spanish-language translation for all the content.
I get that the USSF has very few full-time employees outside of coaches and management, but the poor quality of the federation’s official website is appalling, and it has spanned multiple presidents now. Unacceptable.
I give Gregg the benefit of the doubt but why in gods name does Gregg not call in every person he wants to look at to the team. He keeps making this roster at a premium 27 players when he could have called in 50 players. Why?
I’m really starting to believe Miazga is on Berhalter’s shitlist. Derek, you were definitely on to something. Whether or not he kicked Berhalter’s puppy, he certainly isn’t in Gregg’s good graces. I’m also shocked that Scally and Konrad aren’t with the group. Just doesn’t make sense to not have them.
Only thing I will say with roster size is after looking at that aside from Jaimaica (32) and Canada (23) the sweet spot for roster size seemed to be 28. We will see how that changes for other teams this window
Do you think GGG calls up players to boost their domestic situation as well. Sorta like a favor. Shaq Moore for example, if he plays well for USMNT at minimum he will get interest from another team at next transfer window if he isn’t playing for his current team?
IMHO, Weah negates Greene's inclusion, and having Hoppe also do shifts on the left forward flank means Greene would not have played at all. Add that to his bad form lately, and his snub makes sense.
Joe Scally has only played on manicured fields and has less than 10 games in top flight soccer, in which none of them were Concacaf qualifying matches. 3G said in his response he wants veterans. While Greene is a vet, he's playing like crap; and while Scally is playing great, he's not a vet. Moore being benched isn't about his form, it's his pay. Moore proved he can do it in CONCACAF, and has been playing pro ball for years. Scally has done neither. Arriola can't cross, but he does everything else, he's a good finisher, can do the dirty work, and has been in similar games before in qualifying, as well as his career abroad.
I know that Roldan and Arriola are 2 of your favorites but if you you had a 1 or 2 goal lead with 10 to 20 minutes left, who would you rather have to run their legs off and not fall asleep getting back to defend than those guys. I only ask because Roldan seems to be playing above expectations in the MLS. He is not that creative but he usually will not cough up the ball and hang the defense out to dry.
There is definitely a connection between the low quality USSF website and your financial theory about a 27 man roster… USSF skimming a lil off the top? can't swing hiring some web developers or flying 8 more guys to camp? interesting…
