1:13 Buster Douglas v. Mike Tyson was 42/1 and some places wouldn't even take bets on Tyson. Japan to beat SA… 80/1. Incredible pay day for some brave soul!
4:01 what about the 2003 loss to England in the pool stages
If you wanted to get really technical about it, Zimbabwe only qualified for one World Cup, as the participating nations in the inaugural edition were invited.
Great video from a bok fan amazing how u put these things together with zero bias a real professional better than most analysts on fox sports or supersport
SA were heavily off their game, Japan were heavily on their game. Japan scored more points than SA, so they won. Analysis complete.
I'm from New Zealand. We have a south African teacher and so when they won we all came to school in kimonos and flying Japanese flags. She cried
Mate, how is it that you put in so much "fluff", particularly in the first 12 minutes, then missed some key aspects of player development? Eddie Jones was the crucial pivot. He placed a huge importance on fitness. They could run all day! Plus, the playing strategy that you did cover well. But you totally ignored the additional efforts of earlier coaches (although mentioning Kirwin's part) of bringing in foreign players: Firstly to increase the skill levels of the club teams and secondly, for the younger, promising foreigns, to become eligible to play for Japan. That's why almost a third of their squad main playing group were foreign born. Next, you didn't mention the large number of the actual playing team that were sent off to play in the Super Rugby competition down in New Zealand, plus some in Australia. These included their Captain and some props plus their halfback. To gain playing time and experience at top level Super Clubs. The playing style of Japan very much reflected Super Rugby styles. Jones then taylored this to fit Japan's strategy and for them to play to their strengths, avoiding their weaker areas. Jones was the glue.
I went to this game, and I remember speaking to a South African dad with his kid on the train, which was his first South Africa game. We all said to them, that it should be an easy win for them. I still wonder how disappointed they were at the end of the game
Please write this as a movie script.
I am a Neath boy…Living in Japan. I was at the 2 2013 games,,,,,The Hanazono test had the best atmosphere of any game I have ever seen. I took my young half Japanese son to both of the games. Fast forward to the RWC game against Ireland. We went with several Japanese friends to the Wales v Georgia, Uruguay and the Japanese and ireland game,,,, My son Taiki and I had so much pleasure from that one….Squidge,,,,I am a neath boy through and through but dear God,,,the emotion after that game was incredible!! As always, thank you for your videos.
So why are Wales so shit?
That makes Eddie Jones 60 mate
According to Malcolm Gladwell, David was always gonna beat Goliath… it's gets distorted because of the size issue. But David had a long distance weapon kinda like a sniper rifle of the time and Goliath depended on close combat. David only got close after the killer blow to cut off Goliaths head! David was always gonna win that fight! (I just realized you mentioned Gladwell Later in the video I originally wrote this comment when you first mentioned D v G).
1:17 that man is hench like 😳 🤕💀
As a safe, this was infuriating to see as we'd had bad coaching since the '07 wc win: de Villiers is the most useless, ignorant, dunder headed coach in rugby history (my grade1 pe teacher knows more than him, granted hrs now now coaching a pro side), & the only reason anyone didn't see the drop of was because the players had been trained by white (ironic that eddie helped him win the wc, after losing to England with aus, now to sa with eng in '19, so when you say all those players had a medal from '07…), & were still good enough to carry on. Then Meyer had some issues of his own with many criticisms, & didn't live up to expectations, & had to call back players likeatfield & burger who should've been retired, people always say you need a blend of youth & exp, but 90% of that squad was either at one end of the scale of that, there was barely anyone in their prime. Even after '15 we were still losing games we shouldn't have, until Tassie came asking, so for almost a decade were rubbish, by top standards. Nb, in glad you mentioned Bryce though, so it's not just people from my own country complaining due to bias, because I didn't want to say it was that bad refereeing, unless your just making a sarcastic joke knowing that people talk kak in bars & on twitter, knowing springbok fans would be upset & blame him. But as bad as we were & as bad as it makes you feel, you can't bit live the story of the meteoric rise of Japan from seemingly nowhere, it was just a pity that they didn't make it to the qf's, possibly because if what I said above, & they weren't actually ready for the other teams, plus it a match like that undoubtedly takes a lot out of all 30 starters on that day, but obviously moreso them being the weaker side. But glad the '19 Scotland, & esp Ireland matches were brought up where they made it to the qf's to face sa, even if it was Partially due to home ground advantage, they were amazing & proved they are now a near top side that the big boys will still beat, but not pummel any longer, as seen when they played sa & conceded a few less points against a far superior springbok team than what they had faced previously. Wouldn't mind seeing them win a wc after Argentina in 20-50 years
Xenophobia goes out of the question apparently when talking about how South Africans are big 🥱
looks a lot like Randwick style of playing
SUPER VID
