Petry’s contract is undesirable for a team looking to get better and peak in 3ish seasons. By then, petry will be on the down slope while the wings are on the rise. The exact opposite of what the wings are likely looking for right now.
ifYzerman thinks petry will age well and be a good mentor to the younger guys, then the right price would likely include Montreal having to give up more players or picks to sweeten the deal for the future.I could see the red wings taking petry and giving in return one of their D that will become an urfa. So like… leddy straight up for petry and a second round pick from Montreal. Or stetcher for petry and a 4th.
But I don’t think it happens even if it was for literally zero – like petry for $1 Draper special.
Just because you can make the jigsaw puzzle piece fit, that doesn’t mean the picture on the piece matches the puzzle. That’s a blue piece and the wings are a red puzzle.
Legorocks I love some of your videos when you cover players or teams if they’re doing well or poor. I even like most of your prospect videos. But dude the trade speculation videos are brutal to watch because I cant even listen to the points you make because I cant get over a how unlikely the trade would ever happen. How many trades you speculate on actually happen? Barely any! For example you speculated draisatl would go to boston the other day. In what world does that happen. Im a red wing fan and I dont agree at all with this video because #1 big contract for diminishing player, 2 our right side of our defence is perfectly fine, and what would we give up for this guy? Idk if its worth it. Again I love you lego but I think unless its by at least multiple sources its not worth talking about

If anything, given the lack of Defensive depth Edmonton has, if they turn it around and see themselves ina playoff spot. Would be surprised if they snatched him up if he agrees to low salary.
If Canadiens are going for full rebuild then, yes go for it, if we can get even a 2nd rounder and a prospect (B or higher), but if we are keeping Price, and trying to compete again next year, then we cant really get rid of any big pieces unless the return is very good
The Wings may have had interest, but thats when Holland was GM, and what a wonderful job he's done with the Oilers, he continues to over pay old players, signs players ( Cici ) and others to long term and bad trades,bringing Keith full salary to Oil country for a young promising D in Jones..Shall I go on ?? I don’t think the red wings are the right place. The red wings aren’t in a place to compete at the moment. I’d say NYR, St. Louis, or WSH.

No. 7 years ago maybe but I'm happy that didn't happen then cause Wings started missing the playoffs just after that and he would have been being wasted on a non-playoff team. Wings have no need for him.
His father, Dan Petry pitched for the Detroit Tigers for many years. I can see why Montreal wants to unload this 34 year old's, large contract. The Red Wings aren't making a run for the cup… so we don't need his over priced salary. Throw in a 2nd round pick with Petry and you have a deal. Don't expect anything in return. lol…
If Detroit takes Petry, it will be as a net negative asset and will need at least a 2nd as a sweetener

The only way the Red Wings take him is if he is a salary dump by Montreal. Montreal would only get cap relief, and the Wings get some picks. The more of his salary they take on, the better the pick. The full 6.25M would have to come with a first rounder.

Petry won't be a Red Wing. He doesn't follow the trajectory of the rebuild (read: age) and acquiring him would make no sense with the prospects that are on their way
