Love Southgate or hate him. I am impressed with the risk he is making by utilizing a younger squad and expressing new ideas in the national team and most importantly working on team chemistry. Bring on a different World Cup 🇬🇧
Out of topic – yes I'm a Manchester United fan but more than anything I'm a football fan. And I've always enjoyed football rivalry, and of course the special rivalry between United and Leeds. I wouldn't want to see them doing better than Utd but I also didn't like seeing them almost gone out of football few years back, and I'm certainly miss their presence in the Premier League. I'd much prefer Leeds rivalry with history than a money made Man City with no history.
Why don't a big billionaire buys Leeds United? Everybody know their huge fan base. With big investment Leeds would be much more successful than Manchester City solely based on their local and global fan base. I live in Cornwall and you won't believe the number of Leeds fans here.
Now the job of the FA is to stick with this man regardless of what the outcome of the World Cup. It seems like the players like him, and want to play for him. He looks like a people person, very good with person to person relationship, which probably what these young players need the most.

Keeper could have done better, Madrid will have watched that and will most likely increase their persual of De Gea.

Teams like Belgium are not dark horses because it is expected of them to go far..
I feel like National Team coaches need to have fundamentally different qualities than club coaches. That's why it doesn't alert me that Southgate hasn't been a successful clubcoach. Jogi Löw wasn't either. Who knows, maybe he'll win the wC 2022 🙂
The British press are starting to realise their mistakes in past competition, as well as the fans – who have pushed hype and expectation to the point it becomes a hindrance. This is the first tournament in 20 years, where I feel that we have the right manager, a good young squad, and players that are in that squad because of merit and not because of the clubs they play for. 8 years ago, Maguire, Butland, Pope, Alexander-Arnold, Loftus-Cheek, Livermore would not be in the squad.
As much as I like Big Sam as a character, to think that he could have been sitting here in this press conference instead of Gareth makes you realise that we were this close to going backwards again. Also, compare the eloquence, honesty, and capable hands of Southgate to Woy. It’s worrying to think that Woy was even considered for the job. Take nothing away from Woy as a person, he is a proper gentleman who no one has anything bad to say about, but winning a tournament was definitely beyond him as a tactician and a personality.
Something feels different, it feels better going in with no expectation and just backing the team, manager and hopefully seeing it play out organically and if we don’t make it we don’t make it, if we do we do. Life goes on but let’s just get behind the squad this summer!

I'm telling you now, Gareth Southgate is a winner. Intelligent, bold, intuitive & more importantly brave. He has the respect of his players and is willing to challenge the norm. If this guy doesn't succeed with England, he will elsewhere. For me, our best manager since Venables. I hope we can play with freedom and bravery in this tournament. Do not fear failure, embrace it 👍
I'm not saying we're world beaters by any means but I definitely feel a lot more optimistic and positive going into this WC compared to previous tournaments. We're unbeaten in 10 going into Russia and southgate's improved us defensively (5 clean sheets in 7 now) our young players really excite me as they play without fear and players like sterling and lingard have come on massively over last season
