  1. Jesus this dude is an animal… I’d hate to fight him lol even when he has knocked you out he doesn’t know when to stop until the ref physically stops him 😂 Just a few extra knocks to give me permanent brain damage fk that

  2. When yoel push foward and was aggressive he was unstoppable. I believe he arguably beat Whittaker 2 times. But definitely the second fight. He did drop the ball in his title fights tho. But to be fair. Most of his opponents ran from him like izzy did. No one finishing yoel (I know he did get finished once. Like 15 years ago)

  3. This will get me a lot of hate but I have to say a guy with such genetic make up which includes incredible athleticism, brutal power, speed, durability and overall explosiviness, should've been a long reigning champion with 100 title defences. The reason he wasn't shows a real lack of technical prowess and fighting IQ. Guy won genetic lottery, had everything a fighter would ever wants but somehow failed to achieve his full potential. Guys with half what he had managed to be champions. Crazy

  4. Weidman fainted a double legs, the second and he got knocked out by the flying knee of Romero. His buddy Masvidal did the same technique to Askren.

  5. Just… So difficult to process.

The thing I keep coming back to (apart from the awful cramping of my floating ribs tensing in sympathy with the savage mauling Brunson must have been going through at the end of his fight) is how quickly and correctly Romero followed up the flying knee against Weidman.

His (Romero's) momentum from the leap clearly tumbled him overtop of Weidman in a manner that would be nearly impossible to recreate – let alone train for, though he must have somehow done so – and yet all within a quarter of a second he was able to look back in the correct direction, confirm Weidman was badly shaken, touch down while pivoting, assess the open angle of attack, gather his legs beneath himself, and begin an effective follow-up overhand right with no discernible hesitation OFF OF THE VERY SAME LIMB HE ORIGINALLY PLANTED DOWN ON.

I know I am not a professional – and in all honesty I hope never to be one in this brutally demanding sport – but in that moment even if I was, and had somehow managed to land a similar blow, I don't even think I could have converted it to a win. If I was magically mind-swapped with Romero at the moment the knee landed, for instance, there is no chance I would have chosen to engage in the sequence of physical motions he did. There is little chance I would have even been thinking of aggression, come to it; if I began by looking the right way my gut feeling is that I would have seen a still-moving Weidman [EDIT: TO WHOM] I would then have afforded too much respect.

And maybe that's one small part of the immense gulf between myself and the real fighters. Caution such as I am describing hands a downed opponent valuable time, time during which the window of opportunity might have closed before we even discuss any one of the million ways I would have botched a theoretical attempt to double down on the knee connecting.

Just some food for thought, I suppose.

  6. Yoel is still one of the scariest mfs in the game, his physique, his power, him constantly walking you down in the cage. His highlight reel has some of the nastiest finishes in mma
