      Nice one Michael! I like deer hair flies and tie a lot of poppers. My "secret" to keep them floating high is to soak the popper in Thompson's Original Water Seal (a sealer for wood, concrete and brick – about $20 Canadian for 3.79 liters) for a couple of hours, blot off the extra sealant and let them dry air for a day or two. Works great. Cheers!

      Nice & buggy, I love it! :o) Reminds me of Fran Betters patterns, my favorite bugs. Check out Art Scheck's spun dun. It's similar but the hair butts become the thorax and the bottom half of hair hackle is trimmed off. Dave Whitlock had a skating type Spider dry fly, you know with the hackle tied at least 2 sizes larger than normal, but he used two spun deer hair hackles – one tips facing forward, the next tips facing back, then pushed them together so they supported each other. I don't remember if he tied the tail/body first or after.
      Yes, that's a cool way to save on expensive hackle. In fact, I tied and fished Comparaduns then Haystacks and Usuals for years before I finally bought a #2 Grizzly cape. Thanks Michael, that was a great tie and tutorial. Cheers :o)
