Two thoughts on the US side: Mexico used a 3-back line vs. Uruguay and got smoked on the flanks. Add that Antonee had his problems on the flank with Hakimi vs. Morocco, and I can see GGG going with a 4-back set (at least defensively).
Second, I don't need to see Yedlin to know what he brings vs. WC opposition. I have 70+ caps of footage telling me that. Put in Scally, or at least Cannon, at RB to see how they handle themselves vs. a very good Uruguayan attacking line.
One thought on Uruguay: Godin is expected to start vs. the USMNT. How he plays will likely determine if he goes out in a blaze of glory in Qatar or quietly as bench depth. Also, I expect Darwin Nunez to get the start vs. Edson Cavani. Even if I am wrong, Messrs. Zimmerman, Long, EPB, and CCV had better be locked in for this one.

As a Uruguayan I predict a 1-1 draw. Back in 2018 Berhalter had taken over the team just 9 months prior and we still drew. This American team has a lot more experiencie and depth than the 2019 one. Meanwhile us Uruguayans haven't faced truly strong oposition under Alonso (remember we don't have Nation's League in CONMEBOL) and you could say we're still adjusting the team. As for USA they have been playing under Berhalter for about 3 and 1/2 years now and have consolidated a pretty strong team that despite its ups and downs has successfully transitioned the entire roster away from the main 2000s/2010s one, we still rely on Suarez a lot now and he's absent tonight.
Uruguay during World Cups are another beast, and since they got rid of their old fashioned coach, the team is a good oiled machine.

As a life time USMNT fan who's been to over 20 WC within the Delmarva area, I'm soo excited for this match!. You see I'm also Uruguayan, so it's kinda a win-win for me regardless of the outcome (plus it's a friendly) although la Celeste is truly ingrained into my heart and soul. I must say this a completely different and by that I mean better Uruguay than the one Tabárez was running for the past 15 years. Crazy to think of what could of been, especially having Suárez and Cavani leading the line. Tabárez's anti-futbol killed a momentum started at WC 2010 when both were just beginning their careers. Alonso brings a long needed new generational thinking to an old-school federation.

This is a game I'd prefer our midfield to be defensive… Adams/Musah/McKennie..hope for a goal from aeriel threats and set pieces… once the game progresses I'd try and put Aaronson and LDLT in to try for a goal or if we need a goal to tie up..but it will be a battle, I doubt we will dictate the game…we Def should of had many more games of this calibur in my.mind to truly challenge our team
In addition to all other mentions about Uruguayan Soccer, I would add coaching. Decades and decades of great players, translate into coaching. With rare exceptions, you
don’t become the national team coach or even a club coach b’ of family connections (Gregg’s brother). Excellent Uruguayan coaches all over the world.

I do not agree with what he said about people who are poor (who have a tin roof), which I don't know what he means by that, because in Uruguay most houses, have tin roofs, but they are built of brick… Anyhow… I think that Uruguay creates so many players because there is organization, it is a pioneer country in the region football and there is a lot of passion and support for the sport. From the poorest people to the wealthiest ones, most of everyone likes soccer. And kids grow listening to great feats from the past! Such as becoming champions at the Olympics, beating by high scores Europeans of the time who were the best in the sport, as well as being the host and winner of the First World Cup, and Maracanazo, etc… so that makes kids dream of someday becoming one of those great players from yesteryear.

I really enjoy you and tactical managers analysis but can we please be honest about stuff I feel like sometimes you play Kate to your audience so I'd like to make a few observations and hopefully you guys will answer number one I want to make a crystal clear who shouldn't even be on this roster and I need a affirmation from you guys number one Aaron long Ferreira and the Yedlin have no business being in this lineup today or considered for the roster why do we struggle with being honest with our fan base why can't we play or have our best players I know injuries come into play but as a select an experience coach who's coach some extremely high level collegiate players along with professionals some of this stuff that you guys talk about is strictly BS and burhalter is part of the problem but he's not all the problem Aaron long is terrible John Brooks as far better CC V is way better I could go on and on about players that should be here instead of him I don't know what the obsession is about Ferreira as a forward or the other kid that went to Germany who who scored a couple goals and world cup matches he is not a good Ford he's young but he is not a quality striker I'm sorry fellas I don't know why we have this fascination thinking that he's great number three Walker Zimmerman should be our backup center back he's not a good possessor of the ball we need to start playing are starting group and continue to grow cohesiveness goalkeepers Sean Walker is an MLs goalkeeper and we'll leave it at that the training that all of our keepers get overseas with their clubs as a backup is five times better than match play that these guys get an MLS and that's a fact so stop thinking that plane all the time is the number one reason to be in the line it does matter but for a goalkeeper you need to look at it completely different I was in college goalkeeper I'm sorry I was a goalkeeper I know the difference between who should be on the fit game and playing yellen is a great player to have on the roster because of his experience and leadership I need people who love our national team to be real with each other and stop living in to make believe land are starting 11:00 in fact a heart 26 to 28 players should be set in stone and half of our roster right now even has no business donning the US national team jersey for these friendlies I'm sorry but yes I am extremely MLS negative it's a terrible League stop thinking that our players just because they play every game for the MLS qualifies them as being exceptional national team pool players we need our best and Greg's not even close to getting our best put together so that the grand scheme of things if you and Pete could get together and put your best no if ands or buts or what ifs or injuries your best 30 I want to see if you are on point or how far off you are I'm not questioning your soccer knowledge but if you are true fans of the game and you have the knowledge that you guys talk about
