I would absolutely run back the greatest team in regular season history!!
Trade McAvoy and Pasta. They are too expensive. Moving them frees up all kinds of cap space and you can sign Bertuzzi, Bergeron, and go after a couple of free agents. Yes I know, sacrilege to even consider moving them, I get it. But think about it, they eat up almost 25% of the team's cap. Toronto has tried that strategy of putting a large chunk of the cap toward just a few players and they got out of the first round once since.
I've said this on other threads. At a quick glance, it looks like the 2 teams with the most Canadians on their playoff rosters are in the finals. And the team with the most is on the verge of winning the cup. The Bruins had the fewest Canadians on the roster of all the playoff teams and they got dumped in the first round. On the other hand 4 of the Bruins top 5 points producers in the playoffs were Canadian.
Gee, I wonder where the Bruins should look to to get players? Continue mining US college players or maybe look at the Canadian junior leagues?
Absolutely get a big, young, strong 1C. Even if Bergeron comes back, he should be 3C, which means trade Coyle. Frederic is 4C
Something that no one discusses is that PLD has stated, through his agent, that Montreal is a team he’d like to play for. Do the Bruins want to see PLD play against them for the next 5-7 years, meeting them in the playoffs, possibly, year to year??? Aside from PLD’s potential as 1C, that’s another reason why I’d like to see him in Boston.
