Go Bucs
So a couple of Jets fans want to lowball the 49ers by suggesting #10 overall (and nothing else!) is too much to pay for Deebo? Ridiculous. Yet another instance of the media grossly overvaluing draft picks. First of all, any draft pick, even a top 5 pick, is a gamble. Top 5 picks bust out all the time. And the bust rate goes up the lower that pick is. Deebo is a sure thing: a current first team all-pro who’s only 26 years old. So essentially these guys are saying the #10 overall pick, which has about a 50-50 chance of being a bust anyway, is worth more than a first team all-pro in the early prime of his career. That, my friends, is an absolutely absurd statement. Even factoring in the “oh boy, team flexibility” factor of the rookie contract that these Jets fans want to make seem so important here, the other part they they leave out that has them severely overrating the value of the 10th pick is that even if a team does hit on a pick it often takes a good portion of that rookie contract for that to really materialize. Case in point: Deebo Samuel, who didn’t become an all-pro until his third year, the exact same year he became eligible for the huge contract. Any so-called “flexibility” of the rookie deal is thus severely curtailed in the majority of situations because it takes time for guys to develop. Now, there are exceptions. But unless there’s a Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson available (and it’s doubtful that this draft has one of those) you’re going to be waiting on development.
Not only is #10 not enough for Deebo, it’s not even close. If I’m the 49ers I laugh at that offer and hang up the phone immediately.
As for these Jets fans claiming Deebo has all the leverage, well, wishing does not make it so. If Deebo holds out then not only does he not get paid this season, he also doesn’t get credit for an accrued season under the terms of the CBA, which means he doesn’t become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, but restricted free agent instead, which means he could be given a 1st round tender and forced to play for about 5 million or he could sit out yet another year and not get paid and let his skills further deteriorate as he wastes another prime season. 49ers have virtually all the leverage in this situation, much to the chagrin of Jets’ and others’ desperate fan bases around the league.
Sorry Jets fans, you’re not getting Deebo for anything less than an absolutely incredible haul, starting with #4 + another first rounder and going up from there. Not interested? Good. We’re not too keen on trading him anyway. And unless he wants to waste prime years of his career holding out and not accruing seasons toward unrestricted free agency or sabotage his value by pulling an AB and going loco, Deebo will suit up for the 49ers and he’ll give it his all.
As a Packers fan, I'll take Watson. NDSU ran the ball on 70% of the snaps. Crazily, Watson and Jameson Williams ran the same number of routes in their college career—and Watson was more productive. People that have this dude's take haven't watched enough film.
Why are u yelling
I really don’t see the avenue for the Jets, Packers, or Chiefs to trade for Deebo. The Jets shouldn’t trade #10 just to then have to pay Deebo a huge contract, the Chiefs just traded away their own in house WR because they didn’t want to pay him why would they then go out and trade for a different WR just to pay him? And I don’t see the 49ers trading with Green Bay unless it’s a last resort
Trevor – " This is the second to last episode ." I think he meant to say penultimate episode but never mind 😉
The player comparison I made for Paschal was Z. Smith the other day.
If Wilson is on the board at 17 and the chargers don’t take him chiefs must trade up for him
George Pickens, skyy Moore, Alec pierce all scream from pick 25-35 are going to be selected
Oh snap it’s Seth!!!!
My chiefs draft is chiefs take skyy Moore, Andrew booth jr, Alec pierce, can Thomas. Those 4 picks to begin their draft is my dream scenario
What about Noah gray? Can’t he block too? That kid should make the leap and blow up this year
Logan Hall is the worst pick of round 1
I thought all the Tory Dandies were in the British parliament
Teams that trade to pay are never going to stay on top. That is why I wouldn't care if the Titans traded AJ Brown. Unless it is a QB the best side to be is on when trading a player is making the trade, getting less expensive draft picks and having control of the money.
Titans getting Greene, and then taking Faleele at RT and then TE. Offense could be hard to stop. Wilson was fine as a player but had no motivation. Faleele is a much better prospect.
I think the jets just have to try and send everything they can towards getting deebo. You have to try and see what you have in Zach Wilson and giving him deebo would make that very evident. You can manipulate the cap enough to make this work.
A wise man (Connor) once said Cole McDonald’s rookie card was a sleeper to buy. So I did. Now knowing this story about why he was cut, I am mad he never got the chance.
Seth!
Beat reporters are experts at covering their teams, not at evaluating draft propects.
Next year, challenge them to accurately predict who their team would pick if the board fell this way, not their personal preference. (They have credentials to profile their GM, not the prospects.)
Can't wait for Packers to not draft a WR in 1st round
TD DA GAWD
Did This stooge just referred to Ojulari as “just a run defender”? Who the fuck is he watching? Get him AHHT!
