The issue I see is that puts Daigo in the same situation as you were in. He won by unclear rules, which you had done. The sportsman thing to do was sharing 1st place in my view. That puts both of you with a better conscience. That's what I would have done if I was in his shoes. Hopefully, tournament directors are now updating their rules if not done so.

If you are not intentionally getting into grey area rules to take advantage, I always say let the fish decide. Not some rules committee that just sees black and white. I have been caught up with these people in defense of others. My favorite is when the director got banned by grey area rules I brought up after they whined about an issue at the dock the top boat had due to an unusually busy ramp with said director setting in second place. Um sorry bud but if you are going to be a Dick then make sure your co angler is not up on the deck taking his preserver off as you let them out on the dock. That guy calmed down on the rules is rules attitude after that
I would not have taken that win from you from the perspective of the other angler. You did not cast past the 3:00 rule. There was no intent to break a rule knowingly or otherwise. I would have been happy with the L and the 2nd place finish. my .02

That was a class act on your end grey. You knew you won fair and square but given the gray area of the rules it was something that would be brought up in the future and that’s something you couldn’t live with. With that being said, I’d hate to be the guy that says it but the second place winner shouldn’t have accepted that first place trophy. He too knew he lost fair and square, but I guess the trophy means more than good sportsmanship. If all the judges voted that you won fair and square, at the end of the day you are the true champ no matter what. Hats off to you for what you did

The only thing i will say about your conundrum, is if the time stamp is off then it shouldnt accept it. As long as the system allows your submission it should be legal. You chose to do the honorable thing that sat right with you! Never change that.
