    Scully had to learn to describe details for the radio listener. The audience listened intently to the description.

    That’s all been washed away by the visual production of the game and the American fascination with violence. Enter football.

    Thus, most announcers today pale in comparison to Scully. Most come across as windbags in love with the sound of their own voices.
