Why do people think this guy is a good defender? He was bad and average at Red Bulls last season and his national team performances are so overrated. West Ham putting in a bid for him doesn't mean he would've started immediately in the EPL. He's below Tim Ream's level, truth be told and there are far better upcoming defender talents like Chris Richards, Owen Otasowie, Carter-Vickers and maybe Miazga. And at 28 years old, it's too late for him to go abroad.

I honestly dont see anything remarkable about Long as a player. Just doesnt know how to pass and doesnt concentrate in big moments. We need to push younger guys to pair with Brooks who is our best center back
Him not moving to Europe has stunted his growth as a better center back, now he ball watches and lacks focus during international play. He should not be starting for the usmnt but since he’s in mls they want to push the narrative and pretend he’s better then miazga and brooks

The USMNT always wants to have a certain minimum number of MLS (and possibly Liga MX) players … mainly for the ease of call ups for training, friendlies, and lesser tournaments. The top Americans in Europe can't always get released for USMNT duty due to scheduling conflicts, travel time/distance, or their clubs are holding them back due to injury concerns.
