Germany has always been an avarage football nation. Very few world top class players. It has most of the times been cynical faul play against the best opposing players and typical German sturm tactics at the end of the match. Very primitive. It’s a mystery how this superior team could loose to agriculture German outfit.
read an article at least twenty years ago that the germans cheated by taking performance enhancing substances before this game. i believe because 1) hungarians won big time in their first game, 2) germans were desperate to win some pride after world war ii. i guess nobody cares how u won. asked the argentines in 1986.

Some shocking defending by both sides. But the Hungarian team was many years ahead of its time in its interplay. Credit to the Germans for hanging on.
This final was an epic battle. The film of this game is amazing quality for 1954. Hungary were at their peak about 2 years earlier.

Man I know there was a ton of nerves but Puskas easily could've won this game for Hungary if he did anything but aim directly at the keeper 😢
