I'm sure it was an Oh So Spurs podcast with JJ where JJ identifes that it looks like Bentancur is doing the right things but those around him perhaps aren't. That consistency in line up and getting a row of games under his belt is clearly paying off. Starting to look like the player he has been and I agree he isn't yet at his peak. Looks like he could be hitting it at the right time for the semis and further. Bentancur at his best easily belongs in a Europa League final.
He’s definitely improved with games and getting close his peak. However it also helps when he plays in a double pivot like this week with Bergvall. Very few players can play elite level as a single pivot and I don’t think he can either. However with a more sensible midfield set up he can be one of the best in the league again
Bentancur would have been the best no 8 in the Spurs jersey than playing as a no 6 ,Spurs needs to buy a proper no 6 with Bentancur no 8 and Bervall his partner as the 10 than Spurs will see their potential in the midfield.
Good assessment of Bentancur, I love the way he plays when at his best. When he's good he's very good, calm and understated. You're right 2 injuries and a long suspension has really disrupted his flow. Also Ange wanted to partner him with Bissoma but it didn't work for various reasons. 🤞He seems to work well with a Bergvall/Madison/Kulusevski combination.
Hello mate how are you? Wow what a performance 👏🏻 🙌 👌 still buzzing! Was tipsy on Thursday so I had to watch it again last night! Bunny was different gravy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💙👌👍
Hi Al – think Bentancur has been excellent for a while now – so sad that his indiscretions re Son & Korea have overshadowed his fightback against injury – I love him.
It's great to see Bentancur playing so well for us now. As you said, the guy has been through a lot and it's only now that he's really match sharp. We do need another experienced No.6 to compete with Bentancur next season. People think that Archie Gray could do this role, but until we see him play regularly in this role, I'm unsure he is. As for Biss, it seems pretty certain he'll be sold in the Summer.
As an Aussie I've only been a Spurs fan for 20 months so I haven't seen prime Benny and I'm so keen to watch him at his best.. this last month he's been looking really fluid COYS
I agree. He does offer those qualities you mention. He (and Romero) add an edginess to Spurs as well. Both are feisty players and don't back down from the opposition, during play and in dead ball time. As long as it doesn't get out of hand and cost us, I think it is a legitimate way to put your stamp on an away match, like they did in Frankfurt.
But yeah, he does seem to be coming back into his own. Need him and Bergval to continue to break up the opposition transition and counters, which they did well, the last outing. Don't know if both will start vs Forest, but wouldn't mind seeing them take that energy for a successive game, and maybe snatch an EPL win back from a top 4 side. That would erase the Wolves/Chelsea stings.
Bentancur as an in-form 6 is great. I love how he can draw 2-3 players and easily break free with the ball – then releasing the ball to someone who is now unmarked. It's also good for Gray to learn from him, whilst Bergvaal works on being an 8.

I always thought the number 6 was the most important part of Ange’s system.
