City throwing money at problems to solve them. Crazy to see. Player after player. Astronomical money. A squad depth that is unfathomable. Puts into perspective Liverpool’s achievements over the past 2 seasons, even more so. Liverpool managed to absolutely destroy their competitors and put them so far in the rear view it broke essentially every record in the history of English top flight football. One of those teams being City; the richest and biggest spenders in the history of English football. The wealthiest owners in the history of sport – yes thats correct – the richest in ALL sport. Ever. City and Guardiola evidently want to win the league in the final season of his contract, desperately. I feel like he will leave, regardless. If City fail to win the league after their spending over the last decade and on the back of this season where they have spent unreservedly; at a time where other clubs have been restricted in their finances due to Covid19 (besides Chelsea)… it would be a failure that can be qualified as a failure and disappointment of immense proportions. Their spending power makes them the proverbial villain. I doubt any neutral wants them to win anything anymore. As an LFC supporter for my entire life (i am 31) i still, as a football fan, love to watch City. De Bruyne is the best midfielder in the league and before him it was David Silva. They have been fantastic for English football as a spectacle. But now, its becoming a bit of a farce. Moving into the realms of for lack of a better term “unsportsmanlike” spending. Im willing to concede that they werent punished for breaking FFP rules. But i cant help but feel suspicious that they were unequivocally guilty and their owners yet again thew money at a problem to solve it. In this instance, it worked. I hope for the good of and integrity of football their attempt to buy the league yet again this time around, fails. Come on you Reds.
Guardiola's tactics only result when he has the very best defenders in the world who can adapt to his systems. He had them in Barcelona and in Bayern. He is not like Mourinho ou Klopp who can turn an average player into a beast and help him reach another level. Guardiola system and way of thinking is most likely to do the opposite: turn a great player into an average one, especially if you are a defender.
