there is no such thing as a good penalty taker, it's always 50/50. So, England may have lost on paper, but they are a great team and are well prepared for the World Cup. The best way to ensure a victory is to be up a goal in regulation time. Penalties are always a joke. Quick note on the last second substitutes to take penalties, the coach would have been better advised to just have the ones playing the entire 90 min. take the penalties because they were already in rhythm.

I was pulling for England. These penalty takers should have been given 10 or more minutes to come into the game, settle down, and get into the rhythm. As it was, they came in cold. It was a really bad decision on the part of Southgate. And then he sends the younger and inexperienced players. I had no faith in Jordan Pickford but he gave his team a chance. So England's jinx in penalty shoot-outs continues.
I hate to say it but I feeling that the selection of the three youngsters at 3,4 and 5 was more about trying to make a social statement then anything else.
Should’ve played them at halftime, especially considering that your allowed 5 subs, +1 in ET. IMO they weren’t ready for such pressure especially considering they had less than a handful of play time in the Euro’s.

I agree with rashford going on but i prefer more smashers of the ball and strong shots/mind of defenders and defensive mids over sancho passing/finnese style of penalty. Leave henderson and Walker and take out declan for rashford and saka for grealish

My heart broke for Rashford. The other two were great stops by Italy's Keeper. I'm pretty sure more PKs were missed/saved in this Euro than any other tournament ever. Donnarumma is an Italian national hero.
You all should be ashamed of yourself. When england was winning Southgate made the right call. If they'd won you all would have said the man is a genius. The truth is Southgate made the wrong call from the start of the tournament to the very end. Starting Raheem Sterling, Kane, and Rice when you had better players on the bench was a disgrace. England should have beaten every team they played by atleast 3 goals, final included but instead settled for an average line-up.

England should have practice more on their penalty taking skill that what they lacking of big time. Missing 3 in a row like that is just show how bad they are on penalty . as a coach I would have them do an extra hour on penalty per practice.

He should address his team's play, not penalties. For 120 minutes, they have played how Italians have played in 80's (so- called "catanacchio", or LOCK! Slow, and just defensive). Completely HIS FAULT!… They've been very lucky to get to the penalties. Italians have outplayed them in every sense of that ward. Neuroscience fact. A well struck penalty is impossible to save unless the goalkeeper guesses direction and readjusts. No humans hand eye can process that fast. Nice the ball back 2 feet and the differential changes immensely. Science
