I saw a report saying Will Stewart's Dutch cousin deemed FDJ and Eriksen 'essential', I don't think that would've come out if they hadn't made a serious move for him. Definitely promised him a bigger role than the rotational backup he'd be at Spurs and likely more wages too.

Brilliant. Why should Spurs wait on him ? If he wanted to come back he would have said yes straight away. He left the club on bad terms. He is part of the old Spurs no need to have him back. This new Spurs will be better without him.
The main reason why erikssen left in the first place was levy didnt respec erikssen. And it is the same reason now. Levy doesnt want to pay what erikssen is asking.
