  1. Re: defenses taking away the dual -threat…wouldn’t it be twice as hard to stop a QB that can run AND pass (hence dual-threat) vs. a QB that can only pass?

  2. Goff is a going to get the Lions a super bowl. Its a shame they are not in the playoffs the Lions would have done damage even against the Niners

  3. Mr risdon it was definitely that mcvay trashed him. Kupp was always injured with goff when it mattered and so was Aaron Donald in goffs last year. Goff played great under pressure this year

  4. Just a small note on using the 49ers as an example for committing to Goff and not taking a QB: they built up that roster AND traded up to get Trey Lance… all the 49ers prove is that you can take a QB high and still build an elite roster simultaneously, disproving the argument that the Lions have to avoid taking a QB high

  5. Chris you have been one of the consistent Goff backers for a while and never really wavered. I also have been a Goff Guy for a long time. Glad the haters are eating crow now!!! Goff can lead this Lions team to a Super Bowl win!!!

  6. The flashy QBs that run around like Lamar, Kyler and Hurts all get hurt too often running, look at Fields too who was banged up by end of the season. Sure they are fun to watch but they are way to banged up come playoff time!

  7. Usually agree with risdon. But drafting a qb in the 1st or 2nd round is insane to me. 4th round or later. Get me talent elsewhere high in the draft. The optics alone of drafting a qb that high would be a nightmare. The team don’t need distractions right now when we’re trying to breakout as true division and playoff contenders.

  8. It would help if people started looking at quarterbacks as if they were starting pitchers. Riz's point is that Goff may have an "off" year in 2023 in the same way Scherzer had one for the Mets this year. Riz wants a proper "succession" plan in place, and he does not want to waste money on an established veteran backup who with a tired brain/arm. He is right. What the Lions need is a new, younger arm in the bullpen who can learn the Lions' way.
Ben Johnson is too smart to be tempted by the idea of moving. He has an ideal situation in Detroit where he can develop his own "school" of offensive coaching without having to endure the idiot questions of the public media or the stupidities of an ignorant team owner. Chris and Riz's idea that Johnson will want to build an organization of assistants and then take them with him to a new team makes sense if you think that the business of football is going to continue to be the same old thing, where the money spent is always more and more.
It is not. We have reached a plateau where the supply of new money is going to be reduced to a trickle, where the market can no longer be counted on to always go up. In that world having a "good" steady job working with honest people is going to be far more important than the promise of a larger paycheck from people who cannot be trusted. Johnson will stay.

  9. Risdon dancing In hypotheticals of Goff regressing as a reason to spend high capital on a developmental qb?!? You have your Alex Smith. Unless the guy is there to be your Mahomes you build a damn good roster with the high value picks they have. Why do you think Brock Purdy works in SF. Because he is surrounded by success. Let them build and don't waste draft picks on a guy just to do it. Keep building the trenches front 7 and skill positions.
Goffs ceiling is way better than this franchise has ever achieved. Let's start there.

  10. Truthfully I believe we need to draft a developmental qb. No one in the first round. If the right guy is there in round 2 or 3 that would not bother me. Hooker out of TN would be a great one for example. Plus Brad likes to draft those injured value guys. It's always good to have depth and competition. Goff is our guy for a while and I'm more than good with that scenario. Would be super excited to see then go with a corner and Bishon Robinson in the first.
